Original Winners Of This Year’s Money In The Bank Matches Reportedly Revealed

Tiffany Stratton and Penta are this year’s Money in the Bank winners. The women’s contract winner, in particular, has left fans a little confused, and maybe even frustrated. If you are annoyed that Stratton has the briefcase again, you’ll likely be even more annoyed when you find out who was originally supposed to win.

WWE Reportedly Switched Up MITB Winners

False Finish, which has been sharing a lot of insider information lately, claims there were originally different plans for this year’s MITB winners, and that those plans would have led to Roxanne Perez and Bron Breakker claiming their respective briefcases. WWE changed its mind and went with Stratton and Penta instead.

This report is unconfirmed, of course, and forever will be. WWE doesn’t make a habit of revealing original plans for its big matches, particularly when, in at least one of those instances, it opted against having the Superstar most people wanted to see win emerge victorious. However, WWE often switches up match plans multiple times, often not making a final decision until the day of the match.

The People Wanted Perez

As for why WWE seemingly changed its mind across both MITB matches is unknown. The decision to go with Penta over Breakker probably isn’t an unpopular one, although it is a little puzzling. Breakker is supposed to be one of the young stars WWE will build the future of the men’s division with. Having him lurking with the briefcase for the next few months, eventually striking to finally become a World Champion, sounds like it could have worked out perfectly.

Perez is the really confusing switch. Even though it’s an unconfirmed report, it’s the Perez of it all that leads me to believe there must have been plans for her to be Miss Money in the Bank this year. Her popularity combined with the built-in angles that would have naturally unfolded off the back of her victory make too much sense.

It’s why WWE going with Stratton instead felt like it took the wind out of the arena somewhat when it happened. Not only would Perez winning the briefcase have made much more sense, especially with Liv Morgan now champion once again, but Stratton was the only Superstar in that match who has won Money in the Bank before. There was a five-in-six chance of WWE crowning a first-time-ever MITB winner, and they opted to upset those odds instead.
