WWE files for Zilla Fatu trademark
It doesn’t look like there are plans for Zilla Fatu to ever undergo a name change in WWE.
The son of late WWE wrestler Umaga, Fatu arrived in NXT on the August 12 episode of the show and is set to challenge for the NXT Championship this Sunday at Heatwave. Fatu has kept his indie name in NXT, and WWE made a trademark filing on August 27 for the “Zilla Fatu” moniker. The application lists that the trademark is intended to cover goods and services related to performances by a professional wrestler:
- Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.
Fatu (real name Isayah Fatu), now 26 years old, is continuing his father’s legacy after Umaga died when Fatu was young. He entered the wrestling industry through Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling after spending six years in jail for an armed robbery he committed as a teenager. On the indies, Fatu was a regular for House of Glory before signing with WWE.
WWE’s plans for Zilla Fatu —
Tony D’Angelo is defending his NXT Championship against Fatu, Cruz Montana, and Grayson Waller in a four-way match at Sunday’s Heatwave event. Fatu might not be in NXT too long, though, with WrestleVotes reporting that Fatu will be on the main roster “soon enough.” A Fatu video that aired on WWE Raw this week is said to have been a “soft introduction” for fans unfamiliar with Fatu, in addition to promoting the Heatwave event.
Fatu would presumably join his family in the Bloodline story once he’s on Raw or SmackDown.
