Former Velveteen Dream takes part in wild boxing press conference

Patrick Clark, formerly known as Velveteen Dream in WWE, called on his pro wrestling experience to help promote his boxing debut.

The 31-year-old Clark will have his first boxing match this Saturday (August 29) when he faces off against podcaster/social media personality Ryan Pownall at Duel Arena 1 in Orlando, Florida. A press conference was held on Thursday — and Clark snapped after being insulted by Pownall. After Clark listed some of the historic arenas he’s wrestled in, Pownall said he’s gone from that to now competing in “food courts at the mall.”

An altercation between Clark and Pownall did not result in any real kind of physicality (and is being shared by Duel Arena on social media), but Clark attempted to go after him and briefly grabbed a metal pole at one point before having the potential weapon taken away by security.

After Clark was taken away, Pownall did his promotional face-off for the bout solo, with Duel Arena hyping him as the “CEO of ragebait.”

The Kia Center in Orlando is hosting this Duel Arena pay-per-view, which was supposed to be headlined by Mike Perry vs. Dillon Danis before Danis withdrew from the card. Brandon Jenkins is now set to face Perry as a last-minute replacement.

Velveteen Dream’s ill-fated WWE career —

Despite being considered a potential star by Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Shawn Michaels, Clark was released from WWE in 2021. A myriad of personal issues, including arrests and allegations of inappropriate behavior, led to Clark never making it to the WWE main roster. He debuted for the company through Tough Enough and found success in NXT as Velveteen Dream, including one reign as NXT North American Champion.

Clark still wrestles on indies in the Maryland area.
