Chad Gable praises Rey Mysterio after WWE Raw match

Chad Gable had a lot of kind words for Rey Mysterio after their match on WWE Raw.

The August 17 edition of Raw saw Gable retain his Intercontinental title against Mysterio. The two showed respect toward each other after the match, and that extended off-screen with Gable writing an Instagram post today praising Mysterio. Gable called Mysterio one of the greatest wrestlers of all time but said he’s even more impressed by how “genuinely humble, gracious, and grounded” Mysterio is after all he’s accomplished.

“Last night I had the honor of defending the Intercontinental Championship against one of the greatest Professional Wrestlers of all time,” Gable wrote. “But what’s more astonishing to me than Rey’s continued ability to perform at the level he did last night at this point in his career — is the fact that a guy with his list of accomplishments in this business can be as genuinely humble, gracious, and grounded as he is. Rey Mysterio is truly a human being like no other I’ve ever met. All class.

Gable won the Intercontinental title from Penta at SummerSlam, culminating a long story arc where he went from disrespecting lucha libre to embracing the lucha culture. Last night’s title defense ended with Gable pinning Mysterio after trying to submit him with an ankle lock. Mysterio reversed the hold into a pin, but Gable then countered with his own pin to remain champion.

Rey Mysterio’s WWE role —

The 51-year-old Mysterio, who is already a Hall of Famer, hasn’t put a timeline on when he plans to retire. He’s now balancing his in-ring career with being the on-screen general manager of Lucha Libre AAA. In storyline, Mysterio collaborated with Roman Reigns to create the ongoing tournament to determine Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship challenger for Raw in Mexico City on September 14. That tournament is down to Penta, La Parka, Rey Fenix, and Dragon Lee as the final four.

Along with his son Dominik following in his footsteps, Mysterio’s daughter Aalyah is now starting out her own wrestling journey at the WWE Performance Center.
