AEW Continental Challenge Cup quarterfinal matches announced, Nigel McGuinness’s tournament status revealed

AEW announced the following Continental Challenge Cup quarterfinal matches that were “randomly drawn” on Monday.

-Jon Moxley vs. Jay White (Wednesday’s Dynamite)

-Nigel McGuinness vs. Hechicero (Wednesday’s Dynamite)

-Orange Cassidy vs. Kyle O’Reilly (Saturday’s Collision)

-Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli (Saturday’s Collision)

Powell’s POV: The match announcements were made in a YouTube video that can be viewed below. The tournament semifinal matches will be held at the Dynamite/Collision taping on August 26 in Glasgow, Scotland. The tournament final will be held at All In on August 30 in London, England, at Wembley Stadium.

There was plenty of speculation that McGuinness was out of the tournament due to an injury. He is featured in a video (see below) wearing a walking boot, and said his ankle isn’t broken, but it hurts like hell. Nevertheless, he will continue in the tournament with his match on Dynamite. One would think that if he was having issues with his ankle, they would have booked his match for Saturday’s Collision show to buy him more time.
