Malakai Black Reportedly Held Talks With MLW Following WWE Release Wrestling News Source – Latest WWE, AEW, Pro Wrestling News, AEW All In: London 2026 Results
Malakai Black reportedly attracted interest from another wrestling promotion shortly after his departure from WWE earlier this year.
According to Fightful Select, preliminary discussions took place between Black and Major League Wrestling several months ago. The initial contact is said to have happened just a couple of weeks after Black was released by WWE.
However, the talks never developed into anything substantial. Fightful reports that conversations “didn’t go very far,” although there was also no indication that negotiations broke down due to any disagreement between the two parties.
Despite Black now officially being free to pursue his next move, discussions with MLW have reportedly not resumed.
There has also been speculation over whether Black could eventually make his way back to AEW, where he previously competed as Malakai Black and led the House of Black. As things currently stand, Fightful has not heard anything suggesting an AEW return is being planned.
Black returned to WWE in 2025 under his Aleister Black name, marking his first appearance with the company since his original departure in 2021.
One of the biggest programmes of his comeback saw Black enter a rivalry with Damian Priest. Earlier this year, WWE also appeared to be teasing the possibility of Black forming an alliance with Randy Orton.
Those plans ultimately went in a different direction, with Orton instead controversially aligning himself with Pat McAfee.
Following WrestleMania 42, Black and his wife Zelina Vega were among several names released from WWE’s main roster.
Black’s 90-day post-WWE restriction has now expired, opening the door for him to begin appearing elsewhere. Earlier this month, he also unveiled a dramatically different bald look as he prepared for the next chapter of his career.
His first confirmed appearances will come with PROGRESS Wrestling, with Black currently advertised for three dates beginning September 4.
With MLW having previously shown interest and Black now officially available, attention will be firmly on where the former WWE and AEW star decides to go next.
