At SummerSlam, Oba Femi became the face of the future in WWE. He’s already one of the most popular stars on Raw and has won the King of the Ring. At the show of the summer, he beat Brock Lesnar (supposedly in his last match) at Hell in a Cell. Afterward, the Beast held up the arm of the Ruler and called Femi the future. Everyone can tell that he’s going to be the next big thing in WWE. There’s only one way to mess it up, and that’s to pair him up with a certain legend who has helped so many other superstars.

Oba Femi and Paul Heyman Showed Respect Backstage on WWE Raw

The feud between Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar lasted for three matches, with the two trading wins at WrestleMania and 42 and Clash in Italy, before Femi got the decisive win it Hell in a Cell. Their rivalry also included another person, the advocate for the Beast, Paul Heyman. He’s long been the mouthpiece for Lesnar, and he’s a great fill-in when the part-time star isn’t there. His masterful promo skills can sell a match so easily.

On Raw last week, a backstage segment showed Heyman, when Femi, having just given a promo of his own, walked up. What happened next was not another loud back and forth of hatred. Instead, it was a toned-down short talk of mutual respect. Heyman called Femi “sir.” After Femi told Heyman to thank Lesnar for the kind words he said about him, Heyman held out his hand.

“That would be a pleasure, sir. And Oba, congratulations.”

With how Heyman gave a slight bow to the Ruler before watching him walk off, it got fans online wondering if WWE is setting up Paul Heyman becoming Oba Femi’s manager.

Paul Heyman is the best wrestling manager there has ever been, even better than legends like Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. The mastermind behind ECW is a ball of energy, a fiery talker who can get fans to eat out of the palm of his hand with anything he says. He’s been a great babyface and an even better heel.

Heyman first came to prominence in WWE as Brock Lesnar’s manager when he became the next big thing during the Ruthless Aggression era. When Lesnar left WWE, Heyman turned his attention to others. He was fun alongside CM Punk for a short time, yet his services failed with Curtis Axel and Cesaro.

Heyman really got his groove back when Lesnar returned to WWE and became even better as Roman Reigns’ wiseman. Like Lesnar, the Tribal Chief often wasn’t on TV. Heyman was though, and he became the face and voice of the Bloodline when needed. Without Heyman, it’s likely that Reigns wouldn’t have become a natural bad guy, and one so quickly accepted. Heyman was the last piece Roman required in a much-needed change. That’s not always the case though. Today, Heyman is also the mouthpiece of the doomed Vision faction and stands alongside Bron Breakker, who really doesn’t need his services. Breakker would be better on his own as a lone badass of rage. He’s not the only one.

Oba Femi Is Better on His Own and Doesn’t Need a Mouthpiece

If WWE doesn’t screw it up or overthink something that’s so easy, they have the next face of the company with Oba Femi. Once he eventually beats Roman Reigns, likely at WrestleMania 43, the torch is passed and the company is his for the next decade. WWE has already had a few minor botches with Femi, such as having him win King of the Ring yet failing to challenge for a world title, and waiting so long to make him a champion when it should happen as soon as possible.

The worst mistake WWE can make, however, is to put Oba Femi with Paul Heyman. To do so would be to make Femi the next Lesnar or Reigns. He doesn’t need to be the next anyone. Fans love him so much because of the aura he exudes on his own. There is no need to make him a copycat of what worked for others. Listening to Femi speak with his exaggerated Nigerian accent is to hear a confident superstar who is afraid of no one. No, he’s not as thrilling as someone like CM Punk on the mic. But he’s already good, and he’ll only get better. To silence him and have Heyman be his mouthpiece would be a massive mistake.

Oba Femi is the man. He’s going to rule WWE for a long time to come, winning multiple world titles and main eventing so many WrestleMania PLEs. He can do it on his own. The Ruler does not need anyone at his side to help him conquer. If WWE puts Paul Heyman next to him, it says that Femi isn’t confident he can do it on his own. In such a short amount of time, Oba Femi has proven that his character needs no one. He’s a singular force and what’s working so well should not be altered in any way.
