Why Roman Reigns Is Missing From The 2026 PWI 500

This year’s PWI 500 has been published. An exhaustive list of the top 500 male pro wrestlers in the world today that has been published every single year since 1991. The first thing fans tend to do is see who topped the list, who’s at number 500, and then seek out where other big stars landed this year. This year, that resulted in fans quickly discovering that Roman Reigns is nowhere to be seen.

Roman Reigns Misses Out On The PWI 500

Reigns has had a pretty incredible year. He won the men’s Royal Rumble, used the title shot he earned by winning that match to become World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 42, and he has successfully defended that title a handful of times since. You’d think that would be enough to not only earn him a spot in the PWI 500, but also to rank pretty highly.

That’s not the case. Despite Reigns’ accolades over the last 12 months, he is not considered one of the 500 best active male wrestlers in the world today. It isn’t because the good people at PWI don’t think Reigns is good enough, nor is it a glaring oversight. Reigns is missing from the list entirely because he hasn’t competed in enough matches.

Roman Reigns Doesn’t Fit The Criteria

PWI judges each year’s list based on what wrestlers have done between August 1 and July 31 the following year. That means this year’s window ran from August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. To be considered for the PWI 500, you need to have wrestled at least ten matches during that period. Reigns missed out because he is currently so part-time that he wrestled just eight matches during that timeframe.

It’s the same reason why Reigns missed out on last year’s PWI 500 too. That’s back-to-back years ending a 14-year streak during which Reigns ranked among the top 500 male wrestlers in the world every single year from 2011 to 2024. Reigns looked like he was going to make up for missing out in 2025 too, as he started off the window with a bang, wrestling the first of what would be just eight matches on August 2, 2025.

As for who did make the cut, MJF was ranked number one this year, not only marking the first time he has ever topped the list, but also the first time he has ever managed to break the top five, with a previous high of sixth. MJF’s crowning achievement ends a four-year streak of WWE Superstars topping the pile. Cody Rhodes was the highest-ranked wrestler from WWE at number two, with CM Punk right after him in third.
