Janel Grant Receives Advocacy In Action Award From Connecticut Alliance To End Sexual Violence
Janel Grant accepted the Advocacy in Action Award from the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence, revealing more of what she’s gone through, but how she found a new outlook on life.
Grant filed a lawsuit in January 2024 against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. The lawsuit accuses McMahon of sexual assault and sex trafficking. McMahon resigned from TKO/WWE following the lawsuit being filed. Laurinaitis has since been dropped from the lawsuit, which is currently in private arbitration.
Grant posted her speech on Instagram, explaining what she’s endured over the years.
“What I’ve survived is one, two, three, four years of an across-the-board life wreck, like physical health, mental health, my support system, my safety, my security, my place in the world, just stability and everything gone, finances gone,” she said.
She recounted the fall in her home where she suffered a concussion, broken ribs and facial injuries, and spent days in a blackout.
“The power of my worst fear realized turned out to be proof that I’m actually in a new beginning. It took a serious accident and nearly losing my life to realize finally that me and my cat were not alone,” she said.
She continued, “Everything from my bones to my bank account is still broken. Any problem I had yesterday is still going to be there tomorrow, but I’m standing in gratitude. It feels like this joyous, hard-won, defiant, against-the-odds, honest celebration of life and of the power of the Alliance. Because I’m still here. I’m still breathing.”
She closed by saying, “It’s powerful to realize I’ve stopped counting the dates and I’m making the days count.”
In July, WWE, Grant, and McMahon filed a voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit so that it could continue in private arbitration. The lawsuit has not been settled.
