Roman Reigns In AAA Can Change The Wrestling Business

The final moments of the August 3 edition of Monday Night RAW featured World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns talking with AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio, hinting that an appearance in the Mexican promotion is coming in the very near future. Of course, this could be just to pop a rating or offer some competition for AEW shows running at the same time, with it simply being just a one-off promo appearance. However, if WWE plays their cards right and maximizes the potential of Reigns appearing in AAA, then this could be something truly special that can change WWE’s trajectory.

Roman Reigns Vs. El Grande Americano Would Be Groundbreaking

• Reigns is WWE’s biggest current name.
• Americano is the new face of AAA.
• WWE should book two matches between Reigns & Americano.

There are not a lot of matches in WWE today that would be considered “money matches” and bouts that fans would clamor to pay for. When it comes to a certain portion of the WWE fanbase over in AAA, and for some of those who just watch WWE, there would be a paying audience who would pay to see a major showdown between Roman Reigns and El Grande Americano. Over in AAA, Americano is the number one name in the whole promotion and someone who is over with the entire country. If WWE were to book a stadium show in Mexico, this match alone would sell the venue.

This is a matchup that looks so surreal on paper despite them each being contracted to the same company, which is why it would feel so special. Ever since his now iconic match with Chad Gable (Original El Grande Americano), Ludwig Kaiser’s version of the gimmick has not been present on WWE programming, leading him to feel like something of a mythical entity that exists in AAA. Having Americano confront Reigns in his AAA appearance to set up a match for the World Heavyweight Championship would generate real buzz and it would instantly legitimize Americano for WWE fans, rather than just AAA fans.

El Grande Americano Can Become A Main Event Star Against Roman Reigns

• This should be presented like classic showdowns of the past such as Flair vs. Fujinami.

WWE is lacking new main event talents and legit stars. Outside of Oba Femi, no one on the current WWE roster has momentum enough to convince fans that they are the next to join the elite group of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes on the WWE roster. El Grande Americano clearly has this potential based upon the reactions he receives.

Americano doesn’t have to defeat Reigns, but putting on a strong showing will elevate him greatly. If WWE books both a match in Mexico and in the US, they will get the both words in terms of fan reaction. Booking a rematch after an initial loss would also create great unpredictability, especially if a rematch is Mexico, giving fans serious belief that Americano could pull off an upset. Although AAA is under the WWE banner, this could be presented in a similar way to cross-promotion classics similar to the likes of Ric Flair vs. Tatsumi Fujinami back in the day, which felt larger than life. Not only that, but a pair of matches like this would make Reigns’ time as champion stand out, mean more, and live on in memory forever, rather than just being a forgettable part-timer run.

WWE Should Not Waste Roman Reigns In AAA

• A boring appearance in AAA will be a major misfire.
• There is potential for multiple feuds for Reigns in AAA.

The most likely scenario is a one-off appearance and no in-ring action for Roman Reigns in AAA; this would not only be a waste of time but it would also ruin the buzz or excitement for any future appearances. Not only is a feud with El Grande Americano on the cards, but teaming up together could also be money.

Reigns could also spark issues with Dominik Mysterio, who is a different guy over in AAA. Meeting the World Heavyweight Champion in the ring could be the turning point for what has become a disastrous 2026 for Mysterio in WWE. Using his star power and heat in AAA can be used to elevate him on WWE programming too, all thanks to working with Reigns. WWE can use Reigns for plenty of benefit and it could help to bring about real momentum to the promotion and industry.
