Kairi Sane was seen by many fans as a missed opportunity in WWE, getting released just as she was finally discovering some momentum as a singles star on the main roster. Over the last couple of days, it has emerged via a report from Fightful Select that Kairi has been in talks with AEW, though no deal has been reached as of yet. When looking ahead, AEW should make signing her a big priority, as she could be an invaluable part of the women’s division going forwards. Although things didn’t work out for her in WWE, AEW is a place in which she can flourish.

WWE Misused Kairi Sane Before Releasing Her

During her time in NXT, Kairi Sane emerged as the most popular underdog babyface of the brand for a time, delivering show-stealing performances and proving her worth as a star of the future. When she eventually came to the WWE main roster, Kairi was paired up with Asuka as part of the Kabuki Warriors, and she essentially did nothing else for the duration of her entire spell across Monday Night RAW and Friday Night SmackDown. Sure, they were a tremendous part of the tag team division, and are arguably the best tag team to have ever taken part in the women’s tag scene in WWE, but Kairi was also an understudy to Asuka.

In 2026, Kairi was finally being handed some character development, being mistreated by the nasty and psychotic Asuka as a part of their duo. With support from Iyo Sky, the fans began to get behind Kairi, willing her to break free from under the control and spell of Asuka. Unfortunately, before this storyline could reach any sort of happy conclusion, she received her release from WWE around WrestleMania 42 season. Sky & Asuka completed the storyline without Kairi, with her never being mentioned again. This was a sour way for Kairi to be treated, but it fell in line with the rest of her underwhelming and lackluster booking through her whole main roster run. With Kairi now in talks with other promotions, there is hope yet for her to achieve greatness.

Kairi Sane Would Be A Hit In AEW

• Kairi’s in-ring style would work well in AEW.

One of the promotions reportedly in talks with Kairi is AEW. Although the AEW women’s division is packed with talent, there is undoubtedly a space there for the former IWGP Women’s Champion. With how explosive and impactful her style in the ring can be, Kairi would be a sure fit within the AEW women’s division, which is rampant with wrestlers of all styles, backgrounds, and talents. There is a gap in the division, and that comes in the form of an underdog babyface. The likes of Willow Nightingale can fit that description, but with Kairi having a size disadvantage, she can certainly cement herself in that position better than anyone on the current AEW roster.

Kairi brings experience, talent, and ready made star power, with her retaining a lot of popularity despite not being booked ideally in WWE. There is also history to build from with Kairi, as she previously had feuds and matches with the likes of Mercedes Mone, Sareee, and others during her brief spell outside of WWE between 2020 and 2023. With how much of a roll Mone has been on in recent times, she is the perfect opponent for someone like Kairi.

AEW Must Sign Kairi Sane To Make A Big Statement

AEW has proven time and time again that they are able to change the career of a wrestler who has previously struggled in WWE, with recent examples including the likes of Tommaso Ciampa and The New Level, and older examples such as Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, and countless more. However, outside of perhaps Toni Storm & Mercedes Mone, there aren’t a whole lot of examples when it comes to the women’s division. Bringing in Kairi gives Tony Khan and AEW a chance to showcase how much they can improve someone’s career and provide them with a platform and chances that they deserve.

Signing Kairi, booking her well, and leading her to title success can make a statement to all of those not just in WWE, but in other promotions too, and it might even serve to convince more names to eventually make the jump.
