Tommy Dreamer calls Penta vs. Rey Fenix WWE’s ‘best match of 2026’
On the latest episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, Penta defeated Rey Fenix and earned the right to face Roman Reigns in Mexico.
In the Roman Reigns WWE World Championship tournament, Penta and Fenix outlasted all of their opponents to face each other in the final. In the last match of the tournament, the two brothers faced each other, with Penta coming out on top.
The match soon became a talking point on the internet, with fans heavily praising it. Now, WWE legend Tommy Dreamer has also heaped praise on it, calling it 2026’s best WWE match.
“Match of the year. It’s seriously the best match of 2026, which is a slew of insane matches. And why I say that, it’s because it’s the most recent best match. Because honestly, if you were to write down the top 10 matches, you would have to be really, really pressed hard.”
Apart from Penta and Fenix’s match, Dreamer also opened up on a few more matches that can be match of the year candidates.
“I know today’s the last day of August, but we still have three months to go, and to try to name three top matches off the charts, because we have been seeing so, so many across the board in professional wrestling. I mean, hell, Chad Gable, Rey Mysterio was a match of the year candidate up until, what? The fatal four-way on Sunday could have been a match of the year candidate. Kendal Grey, Kelani Jordan could have been a match of the year candidate. However, it doesn’t pale in comparison to tonight’s match,” Dreamer added.
Penta will now challenge Reigns for his WWE World Championship on September 14, 2026, in Mexico City
