Maya World details how AEW helped her family after brother’s death

After her brother’s tragic passing earlier this summer, AEW provided mental health resources to Maya World and her entire family.

Jatwane Wilson, Maya World’s brother, died at 25 years old on June 7 after being struck by an SUV while he was standing outside of his disabled vehicle on a highway. A GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral and other expenses raised nearly $20,000, with a $5,000 donation from Tony Khan among the contributions.

Maya World told Post Wrestling and Poisonarana this week that focusing on wrestling has helped her during the grieving process. Khan and everyone else in AEW has been great to her during this time.

“Everybody was so loving, comforting. Tony has been amazing since that happened,” Maya World said. “They also had all these resources for me, like mental health resources for and also my family that they extended it to.

“It’s just been the best. Like, I don’t know if anywhere else would’ve been so loving as AEW has been. So, definitely one of those things where I had to just dive in and make myself busy. I’ve been on the road every week since, so it’s been great.”

Maya World on potentially competing at AEW All In 2026 —

At the same time as she was dealing with such a difficult personal situation, Maya World started to ascend in AEW with her performance in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. She is now the TBS Champion heading into All In 2026.

Maya World does not have a title defense officially announced for All In yet, but she is hopeful that it will happen. Persephone pinning her in a trios match on Dynamite earlier this week seems like it will lead to Maya World vs. Persephone being added to Sunday’s card.
