Brie Bella shares ’embarrassing’ story of post-WWE SummerSlam hospitalization
Brie Bella’s SummerSlam injury ended up leading to another issue that caused her to land in the hospital.
On the latest episode of The Nikki & Brie Show, Bella shared the “TMI (too much information)” story of how she ended up in the hospital less than two weeks after WWE SummerSlam. She went out to eat for the first time since her broken scapula (shoulder blade) injury, and the restaurant she went to didn’t seem to grasp the severity of her gluten intolerance. Bella was already constipated due to the painkillers she was on from her injury. And when she tried to go to the bathroom at home after the meal, she passed out.
“I was like, whatever, fine, I’m good — was not good. Go home, I get my severe crazy pain in my stomach and all this, and I knew it was coming, because like, it’s weird what my body will start to do,” she said. “But remind you all, I hadn’t used the restroom for like eight days. If not, maybe I’m at 10 [days]. I don’t know. My body went from zero to 1000 on the toilet, because what happens to me is I get really sick from both ends. So I’m on the toilet and my daughter’s talking to me because she can tell like everything’s wrong.”
Bella phoned her husband Bryan Danielson who was outside, and thankfully their nanny who is a nursing student was there as well. Bella was “incoherent” by this point, so 911 needed to be called.
“I’m completely out, like out,” Bella said. “So they carry me to our bed, and Bryan calls 911 because I’m incoherent. Like, I had blacked out. Like, I’m just not responding.”
When Bella woke up in the ambulance, she realized that she pooped her pants, with the amount of fluid being what caused her to pass out. She was “super embarrassed” and kept apologizing to the EMTs. At the hospital, she wasn’t able to clean up for a couple of hours as the ER doctor ran tests. They also were cautious of Bella’s shoulder injury and didn’t want her to move around too much until she was fully with it.
“They didn’t want to move me, and I was so dizzy still and out of it,” she said. “And with the broken scapula, there was just so much stuff going on. So, finally, after two IV bags and some medicine — started to feel better. And then once I could walk, I was able to walk to the bathroom and Bryan had to clean me — my poor husband.”
The situation was “so embarrassing” for Bella but is something she and her twin sister Nikki can laugh about now.
Brie Bella’s broken scapula recovery —
Bella, who should be back in the ring in 3-6 months, also gave an update on how she’s recovering from her broken scapula. She does not need surgery for the injury and just started physical therapy. Bella is scheduled for her first X-ray soon and will then have one every two weeks. In five weeks, she’ll go for a CT scan to make sure the bones are fusing correctly.
