The Undertaker Says This Wrestler Will Be WWE’s Biggest Star (And It’s Not Oba Femi)

Today’s WWE men’s division is still ruled by older superstars, with talent in their 40s like Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, and Randy Orton in the main event. As popular as they are, it can’t last much longer. Soon enough, a new generation built in NXT will be taking over. The Undertaker, one of wrestling’s greatest icons and now the creative leader of AAA, has been watching. He has a favorite to be WWE’s next huge star, and while, for many, Oba Femi is going the face of the company, the Deadman named someone else just as good.

The Undertaker Named Trick Williams as His Favorite New Star

• The Undertaker recently did an interview with Chris Van Vliet.
• He named Gunther and Oba Femi as wrestlers he would have liked to work with.
• Trick Williams called out the Deadman on Raw, only to get choke slammed on NXT.

For decades, The Undertaker lived his gimmick. He was never out of character. When he retired, that changed. Suddenly, the man behind the makeup, Mark Calaway, was everywhere, doing interviews and his own podcast. With kayfabe dead in today’s WWE, Taker has shared countless stories about his time in the ring. Recently, he appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s show, where the host asked him about who he wishes he could wrestle today if possible. Gunther was the first name brought up. Taker added:

“Yeah. I mean, that would be a good one for sure. I like the way he works, and I like the way he takes his time and builds to a crescendo in a match. But there’s guys like Oba out there now, and one of the guys that I think may be the biggest star may be Trick Williams. I love Trick.” (h/t The Takedown)

The Undertaker didn’t say Trick Williams could be one of the biggest stars. He thought he could be the biggest star of them all, even more than Oba Femi himself. That’s extremely high praise from someone who has seen them all. Taker told Van Vliet he liked Williams’ swagger. To him, the only thing Trick is missing is the mean streak which will carry him to the top.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Deadman is so high on Tricky Willy. After all, the two have worked together. Back in July 2025, with Trick Williams still in NXT, but making appearances on the main roster, he appeared on Raw for an interview filmed during a commercial break that later went viral on YouTube. In the segment, Williams, as the TNA World Champion, held his own as a cocky heel calling out a legend, daring him to show up on NXT the next night.

“You out here popping off like your knees ain’t got no expiration date. Matter of fact, I’m glad you like to roll your eyes to the back of your head, ’cause I might just knock your ass out tomorrow.”

On the next night in NXT the Deadman arrived and put Trick Williams in his place with a vicious promo and a mighty choke slam. It wasn’t a humiliating moment for Trick though. It showed what Taker thought of him that, out of everyone, this is who he wanted to work with.

Trick Williams Is on the Rise on WWE SmackDown

• Trick Williams was NXT’s biggest star as both a babyface and heel.
• Although booked as a bad guy on SmackDown, fans refused to boo Trick.
• He lost the United States Championship to Baron Corbin at SummerSlam.

Trick Williams was the face of NXT. When he first arrived on the scene, he was the background, the henchman for Carmelo Hayes. His aura quickly carried him upward. He had the look, the charisma, and the talent to lead developmental, becoming a multi-time NXT Champion, and easily worked as both a babyface and a heel.

When he became a full-time main roster star on SmackDown, Williams was booked as a heel. Fans refused to play by the rules. They loved Trick. His energy, from his entrance, to anything he does in the ring, is infectious. No matter how bad he was, the audience cheered, and it got louder every week. In time, it forced his rival, Sami Zayn, to turn heel.

Williams has already been a United States Champion, and although he was recently defeated by Baron Corbin at SummerSlam for the title, it was not a setback. Now Trick must overcome. Being cocky and flashy isn’t enough to carry him. Having lost, his character must evolve and find the mean streak the Undertaker mentioned. When he does, Trick Williams is going straight to the top.

Trick Williams Is Just as Talented as Oba Femi

• Newer stars like Oba Femi, Bron Breakker, and Ethan Page will be big in WWE.
• Trick can be more flashy and funny than Oba’s character is allowed to be.
• Trick Williams and Oba Femi can be huge rivals in WWE for years to come.

WWE is in a great place for the future. Oba Femi is going to be a monster. Bron Breakker can be a legend if WWE fixes their bad booking of his character. Ethan Page can rule the midcard and perhaps breakout in the main event. Trick Williams can be better than all of them, the Ruler included. Femi has his own aura. His, however, is more serious, which can be limiting at times. Williams doesn’t have to be restrained, doesn’t have to stay inside the lines. He can fire off a ten-minute promo with ease, he can be more flashy, more funny. He has that vibe of The Rock, which can take him beyond WWE popularity to pop culture fame. Imagine Trick Williams in a mainstream interview or even starring in a movie!

If WWE does it right, Oba Femi and Trick Williams will be huge rivals. They could be the next Stone Cold and The Rock, the next John Cena and Batista. The success of one can help push the other. Soon enough, they will both be world champions. But if the Undertaker is right, it’s Trick and not Oba who could become the biggest star in WWE.
