AEW Grand Slam Mexico generated one of company’s biggest TV gates | Exclusive
Dave Meltzer provided an update on the gate for AEW Grand Slam Mexico in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer writes that the live gate for the show at Arena Mexico was among the largest ever for a television taping in AEW history, bringing in well over $600,000.
Meltzer wrote:
“The live gate at Grand Slam Mexico was well over $600,000 which would make it among the largest for a television taping in company history. WWE with its higher ticker prices routinely beats that number and will for the shows n its tour in September. But for AEW, that’s a great number. It was a sellout and the paid attendance closed in on 13,000 which indicates once again the legitimacy of the 13,200 number at Arena Mexico vs. 16,448 which is the official government listed attendance for the building.”
Star ratings for AEW Grand Slam Mexico
AEW Grand Slam Mexico 2026 was headlined by Will Ospreay vs. Mark Davis in a Mexico City Street Fight with no one allowed at ringside. Meltzer awarded the match four-and-three-quarter stars, tying Kyle Fletcher vs. Mike Bailey for his highest-rated match on the show.
The only match in Mexico last week to receive a five-star rating from Meltzer was CMLL’s 22-man World Grand Prix on August 7. Hechicero won the 74-minute match for Team CMLL/Mexico, last eliminating PAC and Claudio Castagnoli.
