Sunday Update:

–Bryan and I will be back tonight talking about all the latest pro wrestling news from the weekend.  We did a show up on the site Friday with Garrett Gonzales talking Dory Funk Jr., WWE’s strategy running head-to-head with AEW PPVs and why, why actions speak louder than words regarding David Ellison and Nick Khan, wrestling journalism in 2026 and more.

–Diana la Cazadora (Ama Corina), who wrestled as well as worked as  a television traffic reporter, passed away yesterday.  Her death was due to complications from a lung infection.  She was 48.  She wrestled out of Monterrey starting in 1997 and later worked in CMLL.

–In  an attempt to get the sale to WBD approved, David Ellison has promised movie theaters a guarantee of at least 30 movies a year.  This has led to some theater owners backing the WBD/Paramount Skydance deal.

–Grand Slam Mexico did 694,000 viewers, an 0.14 in 18-49 and 0.20 in 2-54.  The two hour numbers were 736,000 and 0.21 in 25-54.  Don’t know 18-49 but would be either 0.15 or 0.16.  That’s panel + big data, not including MAX.  The peaks were the MJF attack on Andrade, Bailey vs. Fletcher and the Jericho & Allin & Mistico entrances and match with the Callis  Family.

–All I’ve heard was how great  the CMLL Grand Prix was Friday night.  Hechicero beat Claudio Castagnoli when they were the last two left.  As far as stuff I’ve seen, Konosuke Takeshita vs. Shingo Takagi from G-1 was excellent but I probably have it No. 3 or No. 4 of what I’ve seen in the tournament.  Collision had two real surprises that were great, Mike Bailey vs. Myron Reed and Castagnoli vs. Ace Austin.

–We are told the advance for tonight’s Arena Mexico show (7 p.m.  Eastern) with Mistico & Bandido vs El Clon & Hechicero is very strong.  They haven’t sold out a  Sunday this year but this past Sunday’s show did a near sellout of 12,000 for Mistico’s first match back after the angle with Averno & Los Infernales on 7/17.  Averno & Euforia face Lee Johnson & Blake Christian, Brian Cage faces Blue Panther Jr.  and the Calavera Brothers face The Black Tigers (one of which is Rocky Romero).

–All In has topped 37,000 tickets.  For what it’s worth, two years ago in the last 21 days they moved 8,000+ tickets so 45,000 is a reasonable goal at this point.

–Raw for tomorrow has announced Penta vs Laredo Kid in the first round of the tournament  for the 9/14 title shot at Roman Reigns, plus Roxanne Perez & Raquel Ridriguez vs. Sol Rua & ?

–Ric Flair wrote that he and Wendy Barlow (WCW Fifi the Mad in 1993) are back together.

–The Cauliflower Alley Club has announced a tribute to the Funk Family, Dory Sr., Dory Jr. and Terry as part of the upcoming reunion.  Among those who will pay tribute are Bill Apter, Ricky Santana, Fidel Sierra, The Grappler and others.

–UFC announced aht UFC 332 will be on 10/3 in Salt Lake City at the Delta Center.a Cit 
–For Google trends over the weekend, last night’s UFC show did 172,000 searches which is high for a Fight Night.  At the same time, the Paramount+ numbers were lower than most weeks given the lack of name value.  The only other searches I saw related to wrestling or MMA was 5,000 for Tatum Paxley and 2,000 for JIm Ross.

–Jordan Owens, the Founder of Real Pro Wrestling out of Fort Myers, FL and commissioner of Tampa Bay Pro Wrestling, passed away in his sleep on Friday morning.  He was 35.  He also hosted movie and wrestling trivia leagues in Florida (thanks to Paul Meade).

–Caleb DeWall aka Silas Young turned 46 today.  Sam Adonis turned 37.  Alexa Bliss turned 35.  Olympic silver medalist and 1920s star and later a well known actor, Nat Pendleton was born on this day in 1895.  Dwayne Peale aka Buddy Wayne (not the Buddy Wayne who is  Nick’s  father) was  born on this day in 1934  Little Brutus was born on this day in 1937.  Promoter SamAvey was 67 when he died 64 years ago.  Hall of Famer and Jackie Sato, the first super drawing rock star women’s pro wrestler in Japan was 41 when she died 27 years ago today.  Kevin Sullivan was 74 when he died two years ago today. –Tetsuya Naito won the GHC title from Shane Haste earlier today at a sold out Korakuen Hall.  We were told the match was surprisingly great, particularly the work of Haste.

–Atomic Legacy Wrestling on 9/12 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, FL, is bringing in the former Wyatt Sicks (other than Taylor Rotunda/Uncle Howdy), with Joseph Sawyer (Gacy), Sam Shaw (Lumis), Nikki Storm (Cross) and Erick Redbeard (Rowan), plus an appearance of Kurt Angle.  Whether a coincidence or not, two months after the Wyatt Sicks was announced, WWE announced an NXT show the same night seven miles away in Lakeland.

–The Ali vs. Inoki 50th year anniversary exhibition at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo had its opening today with Satoru Sayama, Yoshiaki Fujiwara, Tatsumi Fujinami and Akira Maeda all attending.

–Zuffa Boxing ran a show in Dublin last night.  It didn’t rank anywhere in any country on Paramount +.  There was a lot of controversy regarding the announcing of Max Kellerman,  who tried to push this show as establishing the return of top level boxing to the city, even though the show just had a show that drew more and people are talking like 80,000 people will be attending the Katie  Taylor retirement fight at  Croke Park.  Kellerman on the air talked about a  sellout of 14,000 fans which people immediately noted was impossible since they only set up half the arena and the full arena holds less than 10,000.  They actually sold 4,300 tickets.

–Dakota Ditcheva announced that she broke both of her hands in her fight last week with Denise Kielholtz.  It’s the second straight fight where she’s broken both of her hands.

–2 Cold Scorpio returns to wrestling after his plea bargain on 8/29 in Los  Angeles at the LA Church for SVN wrestling.

–Joey Janela had his 20th anniversary event this past Thursday and Crowbar and Justin Credible were inducted into the Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame at the GCW show.
