This Long Buried WWE Match Is the Only Way To End Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker

Business has picked up on WWE Raw the last several weeks thanks to the ongoing feud between Oba Femi and Bron Breakker. With World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns absent from Monday nights most weeks, it’s the Ruler and the Vision who have become the top storyline. For Femi, it gives him something substantial to do as the clock slowly ticks towards a huge WrestleMania 43 match with the OTC next April. For Breakker, the feud has reestablished him as a dominant force after months of paralyzing booking choices. All feuds come to an eventual end though, so how will WWE get there? On Raw, Paul Heyman dropped a hint that has us wondering if WWE is about to bring back a match which hasn’t been seen in 16 years.

Paul Heyman Again Reminded Bron Breakker That Oba Femi Is Still Breathing

• Breakker was struggling in a tag team with Austin Theory.
• The Vision has become more thrilling with the return of Bronson Reed.
• Paul Heyman isn’t impressed by Bron Breakker’s attempts to prove that he’s better than the Ruler.

Only a few weeks ago, Bron Breakker was standing in the background, playing second fiddle to Austin Theory of Maxxine Dupri. It was a mighty fall for a superstar who was once deemed the future face of WWE. Thankfully, Breakker has reborn because of a feud with Oba Femi. After the Ruler put down Brock Lesnar forever at SummerSlam, he pretty much deemed himself the future of WWE. Breakker didn’t respond well to this, and has made it his mention to take Femi down and prove to Paul Heyman that he’s better.

The Vision, also once in a very bad place, has gotten a jolt of energy thanks to the return of Bronson Reed. The group demolished Femi at Sunday Night’s Main Event, but before Breakker could celebrate too much, an unimpressed Paul Heyman reminded his client that the Ruler was still breathing. What’s he supposed to do, kill the guy? On Raw, after another segment of the Vision fighting Oba, Heyman once more told Breakker that Femi is still breathing. If the son of Rick Steiner ever wants to impress his boss, he must put down the King of the Ring winner for good. In WWE, there’s only one way to do it. Give us a buried alive match.

The History of the Buried Alive Match in WWE

Oba Femi and Bron Breakker could end with a casket match, another gimmick built around a character’s end. Even better would be the very rare buried alive match. There has not been one of these matches since 2010, when Kane retained his World Heavyweight Title against the Undertaker at Bragging Rights.

Buried alive matches have fittingly centered around the Deadman, who would bury his latest victim, causing them to rest in peace. Sometimes, Taker would even lose the match as a way to write him off TV, resulting in a reemergence from the grave as an evolved character months later. The Undertaker’s WWE career is over. The buried alive match doesn’t have to be. Today, the storyline between Oba Femi and Bron Breakker is the perfect way to bring it back.

Losing a Buried Alive Match Could Transform Bron Breakker

• Today’s WWE leans away from the supernatural and is more sports-centric and reality based.
• Oba Femi would have to beat Bron Breakker.
• Being buried would allow Breakker to transform into a meaner solo star who needs no one.

Today’s WWE, outside of the Danhausen silliness, doesn’t lean into the supernatural. The bad booking and eventual firing of every member of the Wyatt Sicks showed this. TKO and Triple H want a more sports-centric and reality feel. This should mean there’s no place for a buried alive match. But that’s the very reason it could work. WWE needs a shake up. They often give fans the exact same thing every week and don’t take risks. They need to lean into the nostalgia of the past with the faces of tomorrow.

If a buried alive match happens between Oba Femi and Bron Breakker, there’s only one way it ends. With Femi on a collision course with Reigns which will see him become the man in WWE, there’s no way the Ruler is being buried. He would be certain to win, burying Breakker in a mound of dirt. Such an image could be catastrophic for Breakker’s momentum if done wrong. However, if done right, the lasting sight of such a loss could transform him. Just as the Undertaker would do after a buried alive loss, Breakker could evolve. After a short break, bring him back even meaner, a man alone on a mission to prove everyone wrong. Let him cast the Vision aside and Paul Heyman with them. Bron Breakker doesn’t need a mouthpiece or a faction backing him up. If Femi can succeed on his own, why can’t he? Winning a buried alive match would further propel Oba. Losing could ironically push Bron even farther up the ladder.
