Only One Man Makes Sense as Paul Heyman’s Mystery Caller

While not the actual main event, the biggest moment of WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event came during the match between Bron Breakker and Oba Femi when Bronson Reed made his triumphant return from injury. It wasn’t the only noteworthy moment from the match. Backstage, the mouthpiece of The Vision, Paul Heyman, watched on during an interview with Cathy Kelley, when suddenly he received a phone call from an unknown person before walking away. A day later, fans are wondering who it could be. Roman Reigns? The Rock? Pat McAfee? Nope. It can only be one man.

Who Was Paul Heyman’s Mystery Caller on Sunday Night’s Main Event?

• Oba Femi and Bron Breakker faced off at Sunday Night’s Main Event.
• Bronson Reed made his return from a bicep tear earlier in the year.
• A phone call interrupted Paul Heyman’s interview with Cathy Kelley.

The match between Oba Femi and Bron Breakker had a lot of hype because both young superstars are seen as future faces of WWE for years to come. For Femi, working with Breakker gives him something to do until he most likely faces Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 43. Just as important is what it does for Breakker, who badly needed a new direction and new attitude.

Sadly, the match ended as so many in WWE do, with total chaos from outside interference as Bronson Reed, slimmed down and jacked up, made his return from a February biceps tear to help The Vision destroy The Ruler. The leader of sorts of the faction was not there with them. Instead, he watched from a TV backstage when he was approached by Cathy Kelley. They didn’t speak long before Heyman’s phone rang, and he answered it, walking away before Kelley could get any answers about who it could be.

On the surface, this is a hard one for fans to get excited about, because WWE has done the mystery caller so often, and many times without a payoff. We also haven’t forgotten the Pat McAfee mystery caller disaster from earlier this year. So who is it this time around, and will the outcome be any better?

Roman Reigns Is Better Off Working With Other WWE Superstars

• Roman Reigns and The Bloodline could feel threatened by the new look of The Vision.
• Reigns needs to stick with his feuds against LA Knight and Solo Sikoa.
• A retired Brock Lesnar might want to protect Femi, who he respects.

The most obvious answer is Roman Reigns. The Wiseman and the Original Tribal Chief have been linked for years. With The Vision suddenly getting stronger with Bronson Reed’s return, could Reigns and The Bloodline feel threatened, resulting in the OTC sharing his concerns? It certainly makes sense and would be a fun storyline of Reigns vs. Breakker and The Bloodline vs. The Vision. The only issue is that Roman has a huge LA Knight and Solo Sikoa problem. To drop that out of nowhere would make no sense, especially with Sikoa now so hot as a babyface and fans hoping Knight will dethrone Reigns, at least in the short term.

Another logical name to call Paul Heyman is Brock Lesnar. Although he’s supposedly retired for real this time, the Beast was managed by Heyman, and his last match came in a loss against Oba Femi, where he put over the new star with an emotional promo. Could he be so concerned about the beat down The Vision gave Femi that he called his friend to have it stopped?

Seth Rollins Needs an Exciting New Direction

• The Rock and Pat McAfee are other possibilities for the mystery caller.
• Seth Rollins was originally the leader of The Vision.
• Rollins could keep the young group in line and begin a feud with Oba Femi.

There are several other names you could throw out there as well, such as The Rock and Pat McAfee. That’s not happening though. This only leaves one man, and he’s the best choice of all to be the mystery caller: Seth Rollins. The last fans saw of him was at SummerSlam last month, when he had the match of the PLE in a loss against Roman Reigns. Afterward, he and the OTC showed each other respect, signaling that both men are ready to finally move on and be at peace.

When Rollins returns after his much deserved short hiatus, he needs a new, exciting direction to challenge his character. Before his feud with Reigns, Seth spent months getting revenge on The Vision, who had turned on him after he created the group. Rollins could have been calling Heyman, demanding that his former friends stop their attacks before he gets involved and stops them himself. No offense, but does anyone want to see Rollins vs. The Vision yet again?

More fascinating would be a storyline which finds Rollins pulled back into the group. Heyman told whoever called him that he wanted to discuss what had gone down at Sunday Night’s Main Event. It should be Rollins, who sees how the group is being reborn and wants to get back in as their leader. Heyman is losing control of the group, as shown with Breakker’s frustration over the former head of ECW’s respect for Femi. Although he turned on Rollins when Breakker and Reed did, Heyman knows what to expect with him. As these young superstars do their own thing, the veteran Rollins can be brought back in to control them. Seth Rollins has worked masterfully as both a babyface and heel. It’s probably time for him to do bad again, and when he does, as the returning leader of a once great group now living up to their full potential, an exciting feud with Oba Femi awaits. Whatever you do, WWE, just please, please don’t let Pat McAfee be the mystery caller.
