The Wrestling World Reacts to the Death of “The Butcher” Andy Williams

When a wrestler passes away, especially one still active and young, the close-knit world they inhabit comes together to pay their respects and show tribute. We’ve sadly seen this happen in recent years with the likes of Jay Briscoe and Bray Wyatt, among others. It’s now happening again. This morning, it was revealed that Andy Williams, known as “The Butcher” during his time in AEW, passed away suddenly at only the age of 48. This led to an outpouring from his former co-workers in All Elite Wrestling.
“The Butcher” Andy Williams Was With AEW For Nearly Seven Years
Andy Williams got his wrestling start in promotions like Progress Wrestling and Smash Wrestling, before joining AEW in 2019, where he was paired with a wrestler he’d already worked with previously, The Blade. Together with The Bunny, the Butcher and the Blade had a fun run in AEW. Although they never won tag team gold, the duo was prominent on Dynamite and Collision for years. In June of this year, both the Butcher and the Blade left AEW after their contracts expired.
On September 5, the Butcher and the Blade were in the middle of a tag team match for Enjoy Wrestling in Millvale, Pennsylvania when Williams suddenly collapsed. CPR and an AED were used on scene. As fans hoped for the best, news came this morning that Williams had passed away.
The Butcher may no longer have been an active member of the AEW roster, but after spending so long with the company, and having just left a few months ago, it’s no surprise that so many of his real life friends from behind the scenes took to social media to share how much he meant to them. May he rest in peace.
