Former AEW Wrestler Collapses at Show, Given CPR
Professional wrestling can be a scary business. With each match, talent risks significant injury, and they put their lives in the hands of their trusted opponents. Sometimes, however, all the safety in the world during moves can’t prepare anyone for when a wrestler suffers a medical emergency and collapses in the ring. That’s exactly what happened to former AEW wrestler Andy “The Butcher” Williams, who collapsed and nearly lost his life at a show.
Andy “The Butcher” Williams Was Given CPR at an Indie Show
On September 5, Andy “The Butcher” Williams was teaming with his former partner in AEW, The Blade, at Enjoy Wrestling’s Five-Year Anniversary Show when the terrifying moment occurred. During their match against TME, Williams collapsed, leading to the match immediately being stopped and the rest of the show for the night canceled.
Enjoy Wrestling posted an update afterward which showed just how serious the emergency was.
“Andy collapsed at the end of his match this evening.
Our doctors on staff tended to him immediately, administering CPR until the ambulance arrived.
We sent everyone home and are at the hospital now waiting for more information.
Thanks to everyone who helped and has reached out”
Fans Described What Happened to the Butcher
POST Wrestling was able to get comments from fans in attendance at the Enjoy Wrestling show, who recalled what they saw happen in the ring. Rich Fann said:
“It was towards the end of the match. He seemed to be in a bit of dire straits, they went to a finish, and he was a little wobbly. Andy then went down, and Blade helped him up a bit and then tried to get folks to help – but no one saw at first. Once they saw, both the crew, the paramedics, and the crowd worked in unison. Cleared a path, paid attention to the calls on the mic, and then got him chest compressions, ice, and then the AED. Then they boarded and got him out of there.”
Andy “The Butcher” Williams wrestled for AEW from 2019 to 2026 as part of the Butcher and the Blade tag team, before leaving the company in June when his contract expired. Before that, Williams wrestled for years on the indies, including with The Blade. His talents lie outside the ring as well. When not wrestling, Williams was the rhythm guitarist for Every Time I Die, a metal core band which performed from 1998 through 2022.
