Tommy Dreamer has named Penta vs. Rey Fenix as his WWE Match of the Year for 2026 following the brothers’ emotional showdown on Monday Night RAW.
Penta and Fenix met in the final of the Roman Reigns WWE World Championship tournament after battling their way through the competition.
With a huge opportunity at stake, the brothers delivered a memorable encounter, with Penta eventually securing the victory and earning a WWE World Championship match against Roman Reigns in Mexico.
The match quickly earned widespread praise from wrestling fans online, and Dreamer has now joined those celebrating the performance.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the WWE and ECW legend went one step further by declaring Penta vs. Fenix the best WWE match he has seen this year.
“Match of the year. It’s seriously the best match of 2026, which is a slew of insane matches. And why I say that, it’s because it’s the most recent best match. Because honestly, if you were to write down the top 10 matches, you would have to be really, really pressed hard.”
Dreamer admitted there has been no shortage of outstanding matches throughout 2026, pointing towards several other encounters that could easily be included in the conversation.
“I know today’s the last day of August, but we still have three months to go, and to try to name three top matches off the charts, because we have been seeing so, so many across the board in professional wrestling. I mean, hell, Chad Gable, Rey Mysterio was a match of the year candidate up until, what? The fatal four-way on Sunday could have been a match of the year candidate. Kendal Grey, Kelani Jordan could have been a match of the year candidate. However, it doesn’t pale in comparison to tonight’s match,” Dreamer added.
For Penta, the victory also means one of the biggest matches of his WWE career is now officially on the horizon.
He will challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Championship on September 14, 2026, in Mexico City.
