• Will Ospreay opens the show, and comments on his surgery, the ups and downs, and the doubt he’s felt after the surgery. He says he wasn’t sure if he could win the big one. Ospreay says in order for people to understand why it’s such a big deal for a British man to be fighting for the AEW Championship, they need to understand what it’s like to be a British wrestler. He talks about the sacrifices, the roads he traveled to, and the building sites he’d work after wrestling all weekend. Ospreay says he’s fighting under the UK banner, and that the UK is truly where the best wrestle. He mentions learning under multiple British legends and paying tribute to those who aren’t here anymore. He talks about fighting Kenny Omega, who is not there tonight, but Ospreay says there isn’t a man alive who respects him more than he does. He says all the respect he had gone out the window when he mentioned his son, and he promises that Omega will getting the Billy Goat this weekend. Ospreay tells him he’s going to give him the biggest fight of his life, and that he doesn’t want to push him too far. Will Ospreay has been preparing for this moment his entire life, and this Sunday, he’s bringing everything to the ring against Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship. When I spoke to Will Ospreay in April, Ospreay spoke in glowing excitement about what it would mean to win the title at Wembley Stadium.

I couldn’t put it into words because, like years ago, when they first [did] that Wembley show, it didn’t seem like it was real, and it didn’t seem like it was possible to especially fill it at the time, and I wasn’t even a part of the company back then. I could never imagine what Wembley Stadium would look like, and now I’ve been in there and I felt it, winning a championship in that venue. To win, the most coveted prize in all of pro wrestling, I think honestly it would just be one of those moments where I finally did something cool in my life that I can actually look back on and be proud about.

Kenny Omega may be looking at this AEW Championship run as the new great Kenny Omega Experiment, but there’s an energy surrounding Ospreay that feels both palpable and undeniable.
