WWE NXT delivered a chaotic final stop on the road to NXT Heatwave, with championship opportunities secured, bitter rivalries escalating and several major matches officially taking shape for Sunday’s event.

Vic Joseph and Booker T welcomed viewers to the Performance Center as NXT highlighted the upcoming Heatwave premium live event. Four matches were advertised heading into the broadcast, including Rey Fenix defending the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against EK Prosper, a Weaponized Steel Cage showdown between former Dark State teammates Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox, Kali Armstrong challenging NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria in a non-title match, and an eight-man tag team encounter featuring Birth Right.

The night began with one of NXT’s most violent matches in recent memory and ended with nearly the entire Heatwave championship field engaged in an all-out brawl.

Saquon Shugars Defeats Dion Lennox in a Weaponized Steel Cage

The bitter rivalry between former Dark State teammates Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox finally reached its breaking point in a Weaponized Steel Cage Match.

After Lennox and the rest of Dark State betrayed Shugars and expelled him from the group, the two former allies had repeatedly attacked each other. With the situation continuing to spiral out of control, NXT General Manager Robert Stone ordered them into the cage.

Once both men were locked inside, they immediately began throwing hands.

Shugars gained the initial advantage, but Lennox quickly turned the tide by grabbing a steel chair and using it as a weapon.

Lennox methodically punished Shugars, throwing him into different sides of the cage, choking him with his boot and eventually removing Shugars’ belt so he could use it as another weapon.

Lennox then powerbombed Shugars onto a steel chair before covering him for another near fall.

Shugars eventually created some separation and retaliated with a trash can.

He placed the can over Lennox’s head and repeatedly struck it with a kendo stick before climbing the turnbuckles and hitting a missile dropkick while Lennox was still trapped inside.

The violence escalated as Shugars set up multiple chairs.

Lennox countered by stacking one chair upside down on another and then scoop slamming Shugars directly onto the structure.

Following a commercial break, Lennox remained in control.

Shugars finally began fighting back, repeatedly throwing Lennox into the cage before surviving a pop-up attempt and dropping his former partner.

Lennox answered with another kendo stick attack and wedged two kendo sticks into the cage.

Shugars turned the setup against him, whipping Lennox into the weapons.

The former Dark State members continued trading brutal attacks, with Shugars driving Lennox onto a steel chair before climbing the turnbuckles.

Lennox caught him from behind and sent him crashing to the mat.

A Spinebuster through a trash can followed, but Shugars kicked out.

The crowd began loudly demanding tables.

Lennox eventually introduced one into the match and positioned it in the center of the ring.

He placed Shugars on the top turnbuckle and attempted to put him through it, but Shugars fought back with a trash can lid.

Lennox continued targeting Shugars’ injured knee, but Shugars eventually laid Lennox across the table.

He placed a trash can over Lennox before superkicking the can.

The impact caused the table to collapse underneath Lennox.

Shugars wasn’t finished.

He climbed all the way to the top of the cage.

With Lennox down below, Shugars launched himself from the top of the structure with a massive crossbody.

The move connected.

Shugars covered Lennox and secured the victory.

Winner: Saquon Shugars

The former Dark State teammates left nothing behind, but Shugars ultimately stood tall in one of the most destructive matches of the night.

Tony D’Angelo Promises to Retain the NXT Championship

Backstage, NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo discussed his upcoming Fatal 4-Way Championship defense at Heatwave.

D’Angelo emphasized the prestige of the NXT Championship and pointed out that Zilla Fatu had put his career on hold to pursue the title, while Cruz Montana left TNA and its championship behind to chase NXT gold.

Tony also reminded everyone that he won his championship in a Fatal 4-Way Match.

He plans on retaining it the same way this Sunday against Grayson Waller, Cruz Montana and Zilla Fatu.

The Vanity Project Send a Message

Sarah Schreiber interviewed The Vanity Project ahead of their NXT Tag Team Championship rematch against Myles Borne and Tavion Heights.

Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes confidently discussed their upcoming championship opportunity while emphasizing the importance of their brotherhood.

They made it clear that their relationship goes beyond simply being tag team partners.

Nattie and Jaida Parker Agree to Settle Their Differences

Nattie made her way to the ring and explained why she chose to come to NXT.

She then turned her attention toward Jaida Parker and began taking verbal shots at the rising Superstar.

Parker answered the challenge and said Nattie was bringing out the best version of her.

Nattie explained that was precisely why she came to NXT.

She wanted to bring out Parker’s aggressive side.

Nattie then declared, “This is the bitch I want.”

Parker responded that while Nattie may be a living legend, she would soon be calling her “Miss Parker.”

The two agreed to settle their differences in a Submission Match at NXT Heatwave.

Keanu Carver Defeats Kam Hendrix

Keanu Carver faced Kam Hendrix in the night’s second singles match.

The contest came together after Carver requested the opportunity to face Hendrix.

Both men battled for control during the opening exchange before Hendrix gained the upper hand.

Hendrix threw Carver across the ring by the hair before the two continued trading physical offense.

Hendrix connected with a rolling lariat and later hit a Showtime Kick.

Carver continued kicking out and eventually became increasingly fired up by Hendrix’s taunting.

Carver absorbed a series of chops before exploding with a comeback.

He hit a pop-up German Suplex followed by another German Suplex toss.

Carver then sent Hendrix into the ropes and blasted him with a huge shoulder tackle that sent Hendrix flying out of the ring.

Hendrix attempted to regain control by attacking Carver in the eye while the referee was distracted.

Mason Rook then appeared and distracted Hendrix, giving Carver the opportunity to recover.

Carver took advantage, slammed Hendrix and secured the victory.

Kali Armstrong Earns a Spot at Heatwave

NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria put her championship on the line indirectly when she faced Kali Armstrong in a non-title match.

The stipulation was significant.

If Armstrong defeated Zaria, she would be added to the Women’s North American Championship and WWE Women’s Speed Championship Title Unification Match at Heatwave.

The two women immediately engaged in a physical battle.

They even exchanged a test of strength, with neither competitor able to establish a decisive advantage.

Zaria eventually gained control through strikes and powerful slams.

The match spilled outside, where Armstrong climbed to the top and delivered a spectacular dive onto Zaria.

Following the commercial break, Zaria was back in control.

She dropped Armstrong with a backdrop before continuing the assault with strikes and an elbow drop.

Armstrong fought back and climbed the turnbuckles.

Zaria attempted to stop her, but Armstrong charged back and delivered a superplex.

Both women rose and began trading heavy blows.

Armstrong then hit a powerbomb for a very close near fall.

Zaria answered with a pump kick and spinning lariat.

Zaria attempted a scoop slam, but Armstrong countered.

A German Suplex from Zaria followed.

Armstrong avoided a spear and slammed Zaria before running the ropes.

Unfortunately for Armstrong, she ran directly into another spear.

Zaria lifted her for an F5, but Armstrong escaped and rolled up the champion.

Zaria couldn’t kick out in time.

Winner: Kali Armstrong

Armstrong earned the biggest opportunity of her career and officially inserted herself into the Heatwave title unification match.

Birth Right Survive Chaotic Eight-Man Tag Team Match

Birth Right, Lexis King, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, Uriah Connors and Charlie Dempsey, battled Romeo Moreno, Noam Dar, Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux.

The eight-man tag team match quickly became chaotic.

Competitors constantly tagged in and out while the referee struggled to maintain control.

Dar and Moreno simultaneously locked members of Birth Right in Ankle Locks during one particularly wild sequence.

Eventually, all eight men were brawling around ringside.

Following the commercial break, Birth Right had maintained control for much of the match.

Moreno eventually rallied, taking down multiple members of Birth Right before tagging in Van Dux.

Van Dux exploded into the match with a series of high-flying attacks.

He hit a hurricanrana and then sent Stacks over the top rope.

With Birth Right down at ringside, Van Dux delivered a spectacular dive onto the entire group.

The crowd responded with loud “NXT!” chants.

The action quickly descended into another eight-man brawl.

Eventually, Noam Dar and Charlie Dempsey became the legal competitors.

Dar fired off a series of strikes before applying an armbar.

Uriah Connors broke up the submission.

Once again, everyone entered the ring.

Lexis King hit a Blockbuster on Van Dux before Moreno answered with a diving attack.

Nearly everyone spilled outside.

Moreno dove onto the group.

Legacy followed with another aerial attack.

Dempsey appeared ready to join the chaos, but Dar attempted to steal the match with a roll-up.

Dempsey escaped and connected with a bridging suplex.

The move earned the three-count.

Robert Stone Makes Another Match for Next Week

Backstage, NXT General Manager Robert Stone instructed referee Vicki to remain prepared for the Heatwave Championship Summit because he expected things to become chaotic.

Keanu Carver then approached Stone.

Stone criticized Carver for allowing Mason Rook to interfere in his match.

Carver dismissed the criticism, arguing that a victory is a victory.

Shiloh Hill then approached Stone and requested a match against Naraku.

Stone granted the request.

Shiloh Hill vs. Naraku is now official for next week’s NXT.

Rey Fenix Retains the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship

The night’s championship main event saw Rey Fenix defend the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship against EK Prosper.

Prosper received a strong reaction before Fenix entered to an even bigger ovation.

The two immediately engaged in a fast-paced exchange.

After a commercial break, both men continued working at a blistering pace.

The crowd remained heavily invested as they traded slaps and strikes.

Fenix connected with a beautiful roundhouse kick that rocked Prosper.

He attempted an X-Factor, but Prosper escaped.

Prosper climbed the ropes and delivered a Rough Rider from the top turnbuckle.

He covered Fenix, but the champion kicked out.

Prosper continued pressing forward with a spinning driver, but once again couldn’t put Fenix away.

The commentary team highlighted Fenix’s incredible schedule, noting that he had competed in Ottawa the previous night, was wrestling in Florida on this night, would team with Penta at Heatwave and would then face his brother the following night in Mexico.

Fenix began his comeback with a top-rope crossbody.

He transitioned into a Crucifix Pin, but Prosper escaped.

Fenix then hit a Five-Star Frog Splash.

Still, Prosper kicked out.

The challenger whipped Fenix into the ropes.

Fenix cartwheeled on the rebound and delivered a spectacular backpack cutter.

Both men recovered in opposite corners.

Fenix charged forward with a running knee before placing Prosper on the top turnbuckle.

Fenix attempted the Mexican Muscle Buster.

Prosper shoved him away, but Fenix immediately answered with a leaping kick to the side of Prosper’s head.

Prosper landed on the apron.

Fenix climbed the ropes and the two competitors began battling high above the ring.

Both men eventually stood on the top rope.

Prosper delivered a hurricanrana that sent Fenix crashing into the middle of the ring.

Fenix recovered and connected with a superkick while Prosper was seated on the turnbuckle.

Fenix then hit the Mexican Muscle Buster.

He covered Prosper and secured the victory.

Following the match, Fenix helped Prosper to his feet and shook his hand in a display of mutual respect.

NXT Tag Team Champions Agree to Future Title Match

Backstage, NXT Tag Team Champions Myles Borne and Tavion Heights discussed their upcoming defense against The Vanity Project.

Heights admitted that he wasn’t sure what he would do without the tag team championships.

Borne assured his partner that everything would be fine.

Hank and Tank then appeared.

Now that they have returned, they made their intentions clear: they want a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships following Heatwave.

The champions agreed, potentially setting up the next major title program in the division.

Heatwave Championship Summit Ends in Complete Chaos

The final segment of the night featured the highly anticipated NXT Heatwave Championship Summit.

WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair and NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey, collectively known as WrenQCC, came to the ring first.

Grey immediately addressed Kelani Jordan.

The NXT Women’s Champion acknowledged Jordan’s talent but accused her of constantly complaining and making excuses.

Grey reflected on her own rise, pointing out that one year earlier, very few people knew who Kendal Grey was.

Now she is the 2025 Women’s Iron Survivor, the NXT Women’s Champion and a former Evolve Women’s Champion.

Grey declared herself the benchmark of the women’s division.

She also pointed out that she hasn’t avoided challengers since becoming champion.

Kelani Jordan then came to the ring.

Jordan told Grey that she should use her “good ear” because the target on Grey’s back was placed there by Jordan.

Jordan promised that at Heatwave, she would need only one shot to take the championship.

She told Grey to keep calling herself the benchmark because Jordan was coming to put her back on the bench.

Wren Sinclair then joined the verbal exchange and declared that WrenQCC would leave Heatwave with all the gold.

Zaria interrupted.

She mocked Sinclair and insisted that she didn’t care who Wren brought with her to Heatwave.

Zaria promised to win and finally erase the memories associated with the Speed Championship.

Kali Armstrong then entered.

After earning her spot in the title match earlier in the night, Armstrong called the women “delusional heifers” and reminded everyone that she had defeated them back-to-back.

She promised to leave Heatwave with both championships.

Then Grayson Waller appeared.

Waller sarcastically complimented the women before insulting them and declaring himself the reason NXT was must-see television.

He insisted that the world would be talking about Grayson Waller becoming NXT Champion rather than the women’s division or the AAA competitors.

That brought out NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo.

Tony mocked Waller’s various “versions” and said Waller would ultimately do what he always does: disappoint everyone.

The two exchanged words before Cruz Montana made his entrance through the crowd.

Montana acknowledged the chaos surrounding NXT and admitted that he liked it.

But he made one thing clear.

Everyone else had come to talk.

He came to fight.

Montana immediately attacked security and then went after Tony and Waller.

The entire summit collapsed into an all-out brawl.

Cruz dragged Tony D’Angelo out of the ring.

Inside the ring, Zaria and Kali Armstrong began fighting.

WrenQCC double-teamed Kelani Jordan.

Zaria then hit an F5 on Kali before WrenQCC attacked Zaria.

Then came the biggest arrival of the segment.

Zilla Fatu stormed into the ring.

Fatu destroyed the male Superstars and cleared the ring.

The final image was a fitting preview of the championship chaos coming at Heatwave.

Zilla Fatu stood on the turnbuckles holding the NXT Championship high above his head.

Inside the ring, WrenQCC held up the women’s championships.

The show faded to black at approximately 10 p.m.
