Chris Jericho was in talks for potential Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling debut

Another Canadian wrestling legend was almost brought in for Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling’s upcoming Northern Rising pay-per-view.

The October 3 event at Mattamy Athletic Centre (the former Maple Leaf Gardens) will see Adam Copeland make his MLP debut. Chris Jericho wanted to be part of the show in some form as well, but a scheduling conflict meant that he is unable to appear. Jericho praised MLP in an interview with The Wrestling Classic and said he would love to be involved when his schedule allows.

“I was actually talking to Scott [D’Amore] about doing something on the big show that Adam Copeland is on, but it just didn’t work out for scheduling. I had something else going on that I couldn’t get out of,” Jericho said. “But I would love to do something with MLP. I just love the fact that it’s a Canadian company. Scott’s a great guy and he’s very smart to the business, so I’m sure it’s going to be a success. Yeah, but I’d love to be involved in it because once again, for the same reasons that we talked about earlier with Vietslam, he’s doing it for the right reasons. I’ll support it for that reason as well.”

D’Amore launched MLP after his firing from TNA Wrestling. The promotion has a relationship with AEW that includes a deal for MLP Mayhem — its weekly TV series — to air every Thursday on MyAEW.

Northern Rising plans —

Copeland’s opponent for Northern Rising has not been announced yet, but it’s rumored to be former TNA wrestler Steve Maclin. A title unification match between MLP Canadian Champion Josh Alexander and interim champion Stu Grayson could also take place if Alexander returns from knee surgery in time.

Mayhem’s first season will consist of 12 episodes that lead directly into the Northern Rising event.
