AEW Star Mick Foley Looks Back On Favorite WCW & ECW Matches
Current AEW star Mick Foley has had a Hall of Fame career spanning nearly every major company in the United States people can think of. WWE, WCW, ECW, TNA, even cameo appearances in Ring of Honor during the 2000s, but while his WWE and TNA careers are well documented due to them happening at a time where wrestling was much more accessible, his runs in WCW and ECW have just as many gems in them according to Foley himself. So much so that during a recent episode of “The Kenny and Mick Show,” Foley revealed what his favorite match from his time in both WCW and ECW.
“WCW, I would say Beach Blast [1992] with Sting,” Foley said. “Some people might watch and go ‘That was too short to be a classic,’ but for me, I was getting over hooping cough believe it or not. I didn’t miss a single day but I probably should have. I was so short on breath, literally after just a couple of minutes in the ring, and that was like my return, and not that I had ever been away, but I’ve been far less than 100% and then I really worked hard, and Sting and I had a really great match. I thought it was more of a personal triumph.”
“When it comes to ECW, I would say my final match with Mikey Whipwreck…” Foley said. He would go on to explain that because he was a heel at the time, he didn’t know if he was going to get a fond farewell for his final match, especially since he was joining the WWE as Mankind later that same year. Sure enough, the ECW fans gave him a goodbye that actually choked him up a little bit. “I was thinking to myself ‘It sure would be nice if I got a little bit of a send-off,’ and I walked out there at the ECW Arena. They were chanting my name, Cactus Jack, I got pretty emotional.”
