Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has conquered the wrestling world and become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars, but music could be the next area he explores more seriously.

Johnson has never been a stranger to music. His WWE career famously included musical performances as part of his Rock Concert segments, while his work with Disney’s Moana franchise introduced his voice to an entirely different audience.

Now, however, Johnson has revealed that he is considering taking his interest in music further.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, the former WWE Champion discussed his involvement with the new album “Moana: Voices Across the Ocean.” Johnson and his wife, Lauren Hashian, serve as executive producers on the project.

Johnson also co-wrote and performs “Your Dad,” a deeply personal song dedicated to his three daughters.

The Rock Exploring A Bigger Future In Music

Music has been part of Johnson’s life long before professional wrestling or Hollywood entered the picture.

During his teenage years, Johnson even entertained dreams of becoming a country music star. His influences stretched across several generations and included Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, George Jones, Merle Haggard and Johnny Paycheck.

Asked whether music could become a more significant part of his career moving forward, Johnson confirmed that discussions are already taking place.

“I’m exploring that now, and I appreciate you asking that. As you roll along in life, I’ve been real fortunate to be part of some really cool projects, and love it. But music has always been such an anchor for me, and very specifically in genres that I love, like country music, traditional country music. And we’re exploring that now.”

Johnson explained that he has reached a stage of his career where his enthusiasm for a project has become increasingly important when deciding what comes next.

“I’ve reached this point in my life and in my career where, honestly, Brian, when I wake up in the morning, I swing my legs out of bed, and whatever the thing is that I’m doing, I wanna feel like I’m just running towards it. And the most gratifying things we do are when it’s for us, because we have enough pressure to deliver for so many other entities.”

For Johnson, “Your Dad” represents something different from the major commercial projects that have dominated much of his career. Rather than worrying about ticket sales, streaming numbers or other measures of success, his motivation was simply to create something meaningful for his children.

“The things we do, we must do them for ourselves, and then we must feel it in here, behind our ribcage. But they’re also always connected to some sort of commerce. You make films, especially the big four-quadrant movies, you want them to do well. But this song, for me, is just a song to my daughters. Where there’s no pressure of an expectation to deliver something that, ‘Well, how are the sales, and how’s the box office? And how’s the streams?’ It’s just from me to them.”

The Rock Continues To Branch Out Beyond WWE

Johnson’s musical interests arrive as he continues to experiment with the direction of his Hollywood career.

His recent projects have included Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Moana,” while his performance in “The Smashing Machine” saw Johnson step away from his familiar blockbuster persona and tackle a more dramatic role.

He is expected to continue balancing large-scale Hollywood productions with projects designed to showcase a different side of his acting abilities.

Music could now become another part of that evolution.

Johnson has already enjoyed considerable success through “You’re Welcome” from the original animated Moana, but his latest comments suggest he is interested in music beyond simply performing songs connected to his movie roles.

Whether that ultimately results in a full country project or something entirely different remains to be seen, but The Rock appears ready to explore where his longtime passion for music could take him next.
