Andrade El Idolo Retains AEW National Title At WrestleDream
The AEW National Champion is Andrade El Idolo.
One of the title matches on the night at AEW WrestleDream was the National Championship bout. Andrade El Idolo put the title on the line against Tommaso Ciampa.
El Idolo has been champion since July, and the bout against Ciampa was his seventh defense.
During the match, Ciampa took a photo with his wife and daughter at ringside. Later on, Ciampa took his trunks off and had another pair of trunks with ‘I Just Know’ on the back, mocking Andrade. While Andrade was doing his signature pants-ripoff, Ciampa kneed him in the head. After El Idolo regained control, he did his moonsault onto his feet and then the standing moonsault onto Ciampa while his pants were around his legs.
Ciampa grabbed hold of El Idolo’s pants and started beating up the pants. He then hit ‘Project Ciampa’ onto the pants and told referee Aubrey Edwards to count. The pants ‘kicked out’ at two, and that got a ‘holy sh*t’ chant from the crowd. Andrade swooped in and hit his spinning elbow onto Ciampa.
The backend of the bout saw Ciampa trying to cheat and use the National Title belt, but Andrade spiked him onto it. He got a near fall, but quickly followed up and executed his finisher on Ciampa to retain the championship.
