The status of Keith Lee has been a big topic of discussion over the last several years, stemming back to his days on the shelf during his time in WWE. Through illness and injury, Lee has been ruled out of in-ring action for a lengthy spell, taking steam out of his AEW career. After months of little talk about Lee, rumblings of a divorce, a brief social media statement which suggested that he was finally cleared for an in-ring return, Keith Lee finally resurfaced… but not in the way anyone expected. Taking to X, Lee posted an image alongside Darius J. Wright, and posted a link to his website. A small trip down the rabbit hole poses the question – has Keith Lee joined a cult?

Keith Lee’s return to social media came with no statement and no update on his professional wrestling career, but a lot has come from his very small post. A photo of Lee sitting besides Darius J. Wright, along with a link to a website, has drummed up a lot of discussion. It appears as though Lee has joined The Great Work school, led by Wright, which aims to ignite dormant abilities, helping others to access higher levels of consciousness and out-of-body experiences.
Amongst Wright’s beliefs include the Great Pyramids being built with laser technology (while also sitting above an access point to the “Halls Of Amenti” (a hidden land where souls travel to meet a goddess), and are used as portals to stars. Additionally, Wright is also a believer of a Mud Flood which wiped out advanced technology of the Tartarian Empire, 12 realms in the universe being stacked upon each other (one of which features the Garden Of Eden where Wright claimed to have visited himself), angels and entities that can commune with humans and provide the ability to time travel, the sun not being real, and more! When it comes to Wright’s website and teachings, there is an option to give voluntary payments (of either $300 or $500) to enter a private space of The Great Work school and embark on “AYDA” learning.

After spending over a year on the shelf through illness and injury, Keith Lee took to social media to claim that he was cleared for an in-ring return, though a decision on a comeback was not his to make. This led to many questioning why AEW had not made the call to have Lee return to television given his talents, popularity, and the story that could be told on a comeback. In 2026, a report from Fightful Select noted that AEW had discussed a potential return for Lee, only to be scrapped. It isn’t clear what prompted this change, but recent comments from Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live have suggested that Lee’s career is done (h/t Cultaholic).

When I this summer talked about how the belief was that he had retired – I didn’t say it then because I didn’t have a lot of details but I was basically told about this. No one can explicitly say that anyone has joined a cult (unless a cult itself admits to being one), but oftentimes it can be those going through struggle and in vulnerable positions who end up heading in that direction. In the case of Keith Lee, he is someone who has undergone a lot of hardship, dating back to his WWE career. Lee’s call-up to the main roster was met with excitement due to his dominant NXT run, but bad creative (in which he was repackaged as “Bearcat Lee”) and a period of time on the shelf in which he reportedly suffered near-death illnesses during the pandemic, made things very difficult for him.
His move to AEW looked to turn things around for the popular name, winning the AEW World Tag Team Titles alongside Swerve Strickland before once again being put on the shelf for an extended period of time due to an undisclosed illness. In the time since, Mia Yim (known as Michin in WWE) confirmed that she and Lee had been through a divorce, though remained friends. Lee has certainly not had it easy over the last several years, that is for sure. Whether or not he has joined a cult is up to the eye of the beholder, but this recent development is certainly a bizarre one.
