WWE Legend Kane Reportedly Among Top Candidates For Possible Senate Appointment Wrestling News Source – Latest WWE, AEW, Pro Wrestling News, Sunday Night’s Main Event Results
Kane could be heading for a new chapter in politics, with the WWE Hall of Famer reportedly among the leading names being considered for a possible United States Senate vacancy.
Glenn Jacobs, best known to wrestling fans as Kane, recently finished eight years as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. Although term limits brought his time in that role to an end, a move to Washington could be on the horizon.
According to Axios, Jacobs is “viewed as a top candidate” to replace Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn if she wins Tennessee’s governor election in November.
Blackburn is expected to defeat her Democratic opponent. Should she take office in January, she plans to appoint her own replacement in the Senate.
Jacobs has not committed to another political role. Speaking to WATE News, he explained that any decision would depend on what was right for his family and whether he felt he was the right person for the position.
The former WWE champion had previously been discussed as a potential candidate for governor, but chose not to run and backed Blackburn in the Republican primary.
Another name mentioned by Axios is Congressman Tim Burchett, a friend of Jacobs who also served as Knox County mayor before him.
Jacobs could potentially receive support from Donald Trump. In a social media post in May, Trump said he believed the wrestling legend had a big political future in Tennessee. That does not amount to an endorsement for this particular appointment.
For now, no decision has been announced. Blackburn’s campaign manager told Axios there would be “no discussions” about a potential appointment until the appropriate time.
Whoever is appointed would initially serve on a temporary basis and would need to stand in the next election to seek the remainder of the term.
While another political position remains a possibility, a WWE return looks much less likely. Jacobs, now 59, laughed off a question last year about having a retirement match. Apart from his appearance in the 2021 Royal Rumble, he has not wrestled since 2018.
