Trick Williams regained the WWE United States Championship at Sunday Night’s Main Event after Lil Yachty helped him secure a title match against Baron Corbin.

The September 6 event in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena saw Yachty face a five-minute challenge against Corbin. If the rapper survived the time limit, Williams would earn a championship opportunity later that night.

Corbin offered Yachty the chance to leave before the bell, but Yachty responded by hitting him with the microphone. He then tried to escape, only for Corbin to catch him and take control at ringside.

Yachty fought back with the Trick Stick, although Corbin soon punished him and attacked members of his entourage. The rapper also managed to land several strikes and a crossbody for a two count.

Corbin delivered End of Days but chose to throw punches instead of attempting a pin. After connecting with the move a second time, he set up a table. Yachty escaped an attempted table spot with a low blow, and the five-minute limit expired.

Williams had earned his title shot, but Corbin still put Yachty through the table after the challenge ended.

The championship match began immediately. Williams took the fight to Corbin with a flurry of offence before the champion sent him flying from the apron onto the announce table.

Corbin scored a near fall with Deep Six, but a distraction from Yachty allowed Williams to connect with a big boot for two. Corbin then struck Williams with the championship belt, only for the challenger to kick out.

Williams recovered and landed the Trick Shot to secure the victory and reclaim the title.

The finish saw Williams survive the same tactic that had previously cost him the championship. Corbin had won the belt by striking him with it while the referee was distracted, but this time the shot was not enough.

Their rivalry began when Corbin returned to SmackDown in early July, interrupting Williams’ title defence against Carmelo Hayes and delivering End of Days to both men.

Yachty has also been heavily involved, including being put through a table by Corbin at SummerSlam. Following another successful Corbin defence against Hayes on SmackDown, Yachty attacked the champion with the Trick Stick before Williams followed up with the Trick Shot.

Another confrontation led Corbin to propose the five-minute challenge himself. That decision ultimately gave Williams the opportunity to end his roughly six-week championship reign.

Williams leaves Atlanta with the United States Championship back in his possession, with no next challenger announced.
