Result of three-way number one contender’s match on WWE SmackDown
There is still no number one contender for the WWE title.
The end of Friday’s SmackDown saw an irate Sami Zayn run down and interfere in a triple threat number one contenders match for the WWE title between Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, and Gunther by yanking Balor out of the ring. Punk came out and threw Zayn around. They went to the ring where Owens zeroed in on Punk, the two initating a brawl. The distraction allowed Zayn to take Punk’s WWE title and smacked all four men with the championship, ending the show with him standing tall with the title.
On last week’s SmackDown, Zayn inserted himself into the WWE title match between Punk and Owens, irate that he wasn’t getting the shot. He initially interfered on Owens’ behalf, but Owens refused to use the WWE title on Punk when Zayn gave him the opportunity. Zayn instead struck Owens with the belt, allowing Punk to pin Owens to retain. After the match Zayn also attacked Punk, then struck Owens again to end the show.
This week’s show opened with Owens saying he’d deal with Zayn on his own time, but for now wanted another shot at the WWE title. After Gunther and Finn Balor interjected, a three-way number one contender’s match was made for the main event.
