Don’t count Matt Cardona out.

On social media, Cardona opened up about the injury that took place last week during a match against Kit Wilson that was taped for Main Event. The former Zack Ryder said that he initally felt something off when wrestling Gunther the week before, and continued to feel off throughout the next week.

“And then last Friday, I was wrestling Kit Wilson, and in the first minute or so I did a second rope dropkick, landed on my elbow like I do almost every match, and I felt a pop,” he recalled. “And I thought there’s no way I hurt my elbow on a dropkick.”

But during the course of the match, he soon realized that he indeed injured himself. He said he lost feeling in his elbow soon after that spot but still managed to finish the match. He got an MRI the following day confirming he had torn his tricep. Cardona noted that he didn’t feel like he had done much so far in his latest run with WWE and still wanted to figure things out.

“It just sucks getting hurt now when I’m still figuring out who Matt Cardona is in WWE. I must be honest, I’m not getting any younger right, I’m 41,” he said. “I don’t want to sit home. I don’t want to sit and collect a check. I don’t want to have a vacation. I want to be in the ring, I want to be wrestling.”

He said he came back to be WWE champion and while this injury is a setback, he will make the best of it.

“I’ll be back faster than the surgeon said. And I’m coming back to be the WWE Champion or I’m gonna die trying,” he said.

Cardona returned to WWE as a surprise appearace last fall after making a name for himself on the independent scene. He returned full time a few months later under his real name, forgoing the Zack Ryder name he had used during his previous run.
