SmackDown begins with CM Punk and Kevin Owens walking into Scotiabank Arena, followed up by a recap package of the Cody Rhodes-Randy Orton feud so far, including the events from last week.
Aldis maintains control
We then cut to Sami Zayn telling Nick Aldis about an “injustice.” He said he should be defending the WWE Championship in Toronto, but he isn’t because of Aldis. He called back to the last-second four-way at SummerSlam. He then talked about last week, where he had to go out with a broken hand until Randy Orton attacked Cody Rhodes. Sami pointed out that Orton lost his chance and kept talking trash about Orton with him lurking behind. Orton told Sami to continue, and Cody was already in the ring, screaming for Randy to come to the ring. Aldis told him that he would handle it, and Sami said that he would find justice in his own hands and crashed out on a water bottle.

Before Aldis had a chance to talk Cody down, Orton came out. He pointed out that he and Cody already have a match at Sunday Night’s Main Event, where he’ll beat him up in front of his family. Cody told Orton that he knows that he doesn’t want to wait two weeks. Aldis cut them off and said they were not doing this again and how sick he was of Cody putting people in danger and disrespecting him. He then put up the stipulation that if either man puts a finger on the other before SNME, they won’t get a shot at the WWE Championship. Orton complied and said he would be “Mr. Professional” and wouldn’t jeopardize a chance at a 15th world title. Orton then told Cody that it was a lie that Cody was stopped with his chair shot. Orton said he had no remorse when he did the chair shot because he knows how to go there. However, Cody is a “good guy” and always will be. He called Cody “Golden Boy” and “American Nightmare,” but he’s actually the “American Daydream.” He called back to Cody’s question about who was going to kill the legend of Randy Orton and said it wouldn’t be Cody. Rhodes said it was a dangerous assumption to assume he swinging the chair was the wrong decision. He noted that Orton lost at WrestleMania and kicked him so hard in the skull that makeup is still covering it up. He then said he’s learned from friends, heroes, enemies and Orton, and that maybe Orton could become the GOAT and win multiple world titles, but after all that, he’ll come back to him. He added that QB1 kills the Legend Killer, and it’s not a prediction, it’s a spoiler, which was met with boos from the crowd.

The MFTs were walking toward the ring, and Tama noted that he doesn’t see anyone talking trash. Talla dared anyone to step up and challenge them for the WWE Tag Titles. Tama challenged Damian Priest and R-Truth to come and get them. Haku told his sons to show them who the Motherfucking Tongans are.
WWE Tag Championship: MFT (Tama Tonga & Talla Tonga) (c) vs. Damian Priest & R-Truth
The MFTs tried to jump Priest and Truth when the bell rang, but they recovered, as the War Raiders watched on in the locker room. The MFTs were sent outside, and Priest directed Truth to dive outside. He obliged with a plancha on Tama, and Priest wiped out Talla on the other side. Tama sent Truth throat-first on the ropes and smothered him. He dumped him outside to let Talla handle him through the picture-in-picture ad break. The MFTs were in control until Truth caught Tama with a dropkick. Priest got the hot tag, and Tama tagged in Talla, but Priest took it to him. Priest hit the bell clap and sent Talla into the corner. After dropping Tama, he hit a face crusher, followed by a top-rope lariat, which only got a one-count. Priest went for South of Heaven, but Talla grabbed Priest’s neck and hit a lariat. The MFTs worked over Priest in the corner, but Priest broke free and tagged in Truth and hit John Cena’s You Can’t See Me and AA on Tama, but Talla broke up the pin. Priest dumped Talla outside and ran around the ring for an axe bomb. Tama cut him off on the apron, and Talla hit a T-Bomb on the apron. Truth rolled up Tama, who barely kicked out at two. Tama hit Cutthroat, and the MFTs won after hitting the Red Cross high-low.

After the match, a frustrated Priest stood over Truth. They shook hands and hugged it out, but Priest still wasn’t happy with the loss.
Cathy Kelly was backstage with CM Punk and asked if tonight’s environment changed his game plan. He told her no because he thrives in dangerous environments. He added that Kevin Owens has been fighting invisible ghosts, but he’s grown and changed. He said he still sees the same guy from 20 years ago in Owens, and before he could add more, Orton walked in. Orton told Punk he was looking good and gave him a fair warning: That after he whooped Cody’s ass at SNME, he would be coming for No. 15. Punk told Orton that he was looking forward to it.

We got a recap of the Aldis-Chelsea Green segment from last week. Chelsea was backstage waiting for Tiffany Stratton, who was in the trainer’s room. Chelsea reiterated she was sorry and wanted to take Tiffany out to a steak dinner, but Tiffany said it was alright and not to come out later. They ran into Saraya backstage, and she praised Chelsea’s speech last week. Fatal Influence confronted the trio and made fun of them. Saraya went after Jacy’s United States Championship, and Jacy threw in a jab about Tiffany’s injury before walking off.
Blake Monroe was backstage, and Cathy Kelly asked her if this was the debut she envisioned. Blake said she envisions herself as the WWE Women’s Champion, so her debut match should be for the title, even if it’s against Chelsea. She said she’d rather her match be in Paris or Milan, and she needed to figure out an outfit to wrestle in a “dump” like Toronto. Cathy said Blake would look good no matter what she wears, and she agreed and said she’ll go out there and do what she does best: Make everyone talk about her.
Blake Monroe debuts
Monroe attacked Giulia from behind as she made her entrance. She hit a headbutt and a knee strike in the ring, but the bell hasn’t rung yet. She hit a Neutralizer and walked over, telling the camera she was world championship material. The crowd was mostly silent throughout.

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss are talking about brunch backstage. Charlotte forgot about Tatum Paxley, who jumped in and doesn’t seem to know what a Bloody Mary is. Jade Cargill and the Baddies confronted them backstage, and Jade said that Charlotte needed the “freakshow” to help her out in their match. Tatum introduced herself and asked if they were coming to brunch with them and which one of them was Mary because she needed their blood. Charlotte defended her, and Michin challenged her to a match next week. Tatum was excited and hugged Charlotte, which surprised her. Tatum hugged Charlotte again for defending her.
Trick’s ante
Trick Williams and Lil Yachty arrived in the ring to a hot crowd. Trick said he wanted his title back and called out “cue ball” Baron Corbin, who came out on a red motorcycle. Corbin scared off Yachty, and Trick told him that it’s him that he’s looking for. He told Corbin to stop ducking and dodging him and to face him now for the title. Corbin, who didn’t have the title on him, said it was getting a haircut. He reminded Trick that he’s had two matches for the title, and he’s lost both of them. He added that Trick has nothing to offer him and that it’s not happening. Yachty is back in the ring and attacked Corbin with the Trick Stick, and Trick sent him outside. The crowd was behind Trick, as Yachty was giving him orders. Corbin gave him a match, but first, he wanted Yachty in his hometown. If he survives five minutes at SNME, he gets his title shot, but if he beats him, then they’re done for good. After thinking about it, Yachty agreed.

Cathy was backstage with Owens, asking about challenging for the title in Toronto. He was quickly interrupted by Finn Balor, who said he was happy to see Owens back at SummerSlam, but he wished for a heads-up. They were interrupted by Gunther, who told Owens that he didn’t have to worry about Balor because he’s a shadow of himself. What he did have to worry about was him. Owens wondered if he was upset or if that was his accent, and Balor said Gunther’s always upset and not to worry about him. He had to worry about winning the WWE Championship, and as a friend, when he does, he’ll wait for him on the other side.
Lash Legend vs. Tiffany Stratton
We got a recap of last week showing The Irresistible Forces attacking Tiffany and Stratton losing her title. Tiffany tried to go at Lash early, but Lash went after the compromised ribs. Lash utilized the bear hug, but Tiffany escaped and sent Lash outside. Lash caught Tiffany’s tope suicida and slammed her into the corner post heading into an ad break. After the break, Lash missed an elbow drop, and Tiffany went for the cartwheel Alabama Slam. Lash countered it, but Tiffany sent her to the corner and hit a springboard Stunner. She missed a Swanton Bomb, but Lash missed a boot. Tiffany hit a crucifix bomb for a two-count. Lash cut off the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and hit the Lash Extension for the win.
After the match, The Irresistible Forces attacked Tiffany until Chelsea came to the rescue with a kendo stick.

We got a Kevin Owens video package that showed his comeback journey and recapped the Owens-Punk feud.
A Shinsuke Nakamura video promo played. He said he warned the MFTs for weeks, but they haven’t been listening. He added, “What’s in the dark has finally come to light,” and we see Hiromu, who called himself “Kyoki.” He said he’s finally arrived at WWE. He doesn’t care if he’s up against champions, legends or monsters because the stronger they are, the more fun it is. Nakamura said Kyoki does not fear chaos, enjoys it. Kyoki said he wants more fights, more gold and more madness. Nakamura said when you combine strong style and madness, you get an explosion. Kyoki ended with “bakusai.”

Undisputed WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Punk came out in a Jason Vorhees mask and had a mixed reaction from the crowd. Both men went after each other before the in-ring introductions. Both men brawled right as the bell rang, and Owens had the early advantage after dumping Punk outside. Owens cleared the announce desk, but Punk cut him off from behind and put everything back together. Owens went back on the offensive with the crowd behind him. Punk caught Owens with a neckbreaker, which was met with boos heading into a PiP ad break. Owens tried to brawl with Punk, who continued to target Owens’ neck. Owens surprised Punk with a roll-up, but after kicking out, he laid him out with a huge lariat.
Owens mounted his comeback after the PiP ad break, landing a big lariat of his own. Owens blocked Punk’s punches and laid in a flurry of strikes on Punk, who rolled outside. Owens ran in with another big lariat. Owens mocked Punk and landed a cannonball in the corner for a two-count. Owens went up to the top rope, but Punk rolled outside, laughing. Owens caught him with a thrust kick, sending him onto the announce desk. Owens landed a frog splash off the barricade through the announce desk. Owens went up top again and landed a Swanton Bomb for a nearfall. Owens slapped Punk and went for the pop-up powerbomb, but Punk escaped and landed a series of kicks for a nearfall of his own. Punk mocked the Toronto fans before landing the running knee strike and a lariat. Punk went to the top rope, feeding off the boos, and hit an elbow drop after telling Owens to suck it, but Owens kicked out at two. Punk locked in the Anaconda Vice, but Owens countered into a pin for two. Punk landed a swinging neckbreaker and hit another. He continued to target Owens’ neck, which the crowd booed. Punk called for the GTS, but Owens caught it and countered into a Sharpshooter. Punk crawled his way to the ropes to force a break.
Punk was hanging on the outside, and he pinned Owens on the ropes. Punk countered the Stunner and pushed Owens into the ref. Owens pushed Punk into the ref, sending him outside, and hit a Stunner to no count. Owens called for another ref to come in, and Punk caught him with the GTS to no count. The ref was still laid out, and Punk tried to drag him back to the ring. Sami Zayn then came out from the crowd and threw Punk into the post. He dragged Punk back in the ring and hid so that Owens couldn’t see him. Owens hit the Stunner, and Sami brought the ref back in the ring. Punk managed to kick out. Sami threw the title in the ring for Owens to use. Owens hesitated and told Sami he wasn’t going to do it like this. Sami knocked him out with the title, with the ref still down. Punk landed the GTS to retain.

After the match, Sami attacked Punk from behind with the title belt. He then laid out Owens with the belt before hitting Punk again. He yelled at Punk, telling him that he stole the title and that this was justice for him.
