Chad Gable vs. Rey Mysterio title match, Sol Ruca vs. Lyra Valkyria added to WWE Raw – POST Wrestling

Chad Gable will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Rey Mysterio on Monday’s episode of Raw in Buffalo, New York.

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce confirmed the match in a social media video on Sunday. He also announced Sol Ruca vs. Lyra Valkyria for the show.

Gable and Mysterio had already agreed to meet during last Monday’s Raw, although WWE had not set a date at that point. Gable approached Mysterio backstage and offered him a championship opportunity, with Mysterio saying he still had plenty left in the tank before accepting.

Gable won his first WWE singles championship at SummerSlam on August 2, submitting Penta to capture the Intercontinental title. His recent storyline has involved making amends with several wrestlers he antagonized during his run as the Original El Grande Americano, including Mysterio.

Ruca and Valkyria also crossed paths on last week’s show. After Ruca and IYO SKY defeated Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez, Valkyria questioned why Ruca believed she should receive another title opportunity before her.

Monday’s singles match will be a rematch from June 8, when Ruca defeated Valkyria to retain the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Ruca subsequently lost that title to Rodriguez on July 27.

Two opening-round matches in the tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ next World Heavyweight Championship challenger are also scheduled. Dragon Lee faces El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., while Rey Fenix takes on El Fiscal. The eventual tournament winner challenges Reigns on the September 14 Raw in Mexico City.

Penta has already advanced by defeating Laredo Kid, while La Parka beat Psycho Clown on Saturday’s AAA show to set up their semifinal meeting.

Jey Uso is also scheduled to “hand deliver” Solo Sikoa to Reigns after defeating Solo last Monday.

Raw takes place at KeyBank Center in Buffalo and begins at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix.
