CM Punk pays tribute to Dory Funk Jr. at WWE live event – POST Wrestling

Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk paid tribute to the late Dory Funk Jr. during a live event.

Teaming with Cody Rhodes against Gunther & Ricky Saints in Fairfax, Virginia, at a live event on Thursday, Punk hit Saints with the GTS before applying the spinning toe hold and submitting Saints. The move was the trademark hold of the late NWA World Champion, who died this week at 85.

The tribute comes just days after Punk attempted a moonsault on Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, which the champion stated was a tribute to Terry Funk.

Following the match, Punk acknowledged the “dirty” ending to his match with Rhodes where Randy Orton stormed the ring and hit Rhodes with an RKO. Punk stated that he would offer Rhodes a rematch anytime he wanted.

WWE acknowledged Funk Jr’s passing on this past week’s episode of NXT and, no doubt, will cover his passing on Friday Night SmackDown.
