WWE Raw results (8/3): Powell’s live review of the Raw after SummerSlam

[Hour One] Michael Cole opened the show while a shot aired of the host city. Cole set up a video package of Roman Reigns beating Seth Rollins to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam Sunday. Cole labeled it an instant classic… Cole was joined on commentary by Corey Graves.

Roman Reigns was shown walking backstage. The usual crew member handed Reigns his title belt, and then he made his entrance. Reigns stopped and shook some hands, and then his pyro shot off behind him. Reigns walked to the ring while ring announcer Lilian Garcia introduced him.

Once in the ring, Reigns told Iowa to acknowledge him. The fans chanted OTC. Reigns said he’s a man of his word. He said he called his shot and delivered. He recalled saying he would win the Royal Rumble “and change this place.” Reigns said he went to WrestleMania and beat “the old man.”

Reigns boasted that he beat Seth Rollins the night before, which drew some boos. Reigns said he knows that stings a little bit “in these parts.” Roman said Rollins is their boy and his brother. Roman said they found some peace, but he can only acknowledge so much. “I don’t mind if you guys do,” he said. Reigns played maestro while the fans chanted Rollins’ entrance theme.

LA Knight’s entrance music played, and he headed to the ring to cheers. Knight congratulated Reigns on his win at SummerSlam and still being the champion. Knight said he’d eat crow. He said he and Rollins both said Reigns couldn’t do it by himself, but he did.

“But you’re still a fraud,” Knight said. He told Reigns that he’d called his name for months. He said the last time they met, it wasn’t exactly one-on-one. Knight said he wants the same thing Reigns gave Rollins: a title match without The Bloodline. Knight said they could do it tonight, next week, or next month, but the only right answer was “yeah.”

Reigns took issue with being called a fraud. He said he doesn’t call himself a Mega Star and wear a Walmart watch. Reigns had the camera zoom in on his watch. Reigns said Knight won a six-man tag match and asked what else he’s done.

Reigns turned his back to Knight. He looked into the camera and addressed everyone in the locker room. He said you don’t get a title shot by bitching and moaning. Reigns turned back to Knight and told him to get to the back of the line. Reigns dropped the mic and started to leave, but Knight called for him to wait.

Knight said Reigns looks so much cooler when he’s not standing face-to-face with him. Knight took issue with Reigns asking what he did. He said Reigns is a fraud and the biggest vomit in the business. Knight said he’s everything Reigns wishes he could be. Knight said that when Reigns grows one, he’d smack him back to factory settings. Knight delivered his closing line and exited the ring. Knight stood on the floor without a mic and told Reigns that if he had a tournament for him, he’d do it…

Cole and Graves were shown at the broadcast table. Cole set up a video recap of Oba Femi beating Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match in the main event of SummerSlam Saturday…

Cole narrated backstage/arrival shots of Oba Femi, new Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable, and The Judgment Day’s Liv Morgan, Roxanne Perez, Raquel Rodriguez, Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh. Cole said Perez would face Sol Ruca during the show…

Je’Von Evans made his entrance for the opening match. Cole said Evans would face Ethan Page after a commercial break… [C]

Powell’s POV: They’re doing their usual good job of making the latest premium live event feel important coming out of the event. I was so sure that Reigns would retain that I never even thought about the SummerSlam fallout show being in Rollins’ home state. I wonder if that gave Rollins fans some hope that he would win on Sunday. Knight is a logical choice for Roman’s next challenger. Knight has been talking smack about Reigns for a while now and has also gotten the better of the other Bloodline members. I guess we’ll find out what hoops Knight has to jump through to earn the title shot.

Cole hyped the September 12 Zuffa Boxing event…

1. Je’Von Evans vs. Ethan Page. Page’s entrance was not televised. Cole said this is the fifth time Evans and Page have met in a singles match dating back to their time in NXT. Evans performed an early dive over the ropes onto Page on the floor. Back in the ring, Evans grazed Page with a crossbody block that he overshot.

A short time later, Evans tried to return to the ring when Page slammed Evans’ head into the top turnbuckle pad. Page threw a kick to Evans’ head, sending Evans to the floor before a picture-in-picture break. [C]

Evans hit a springboard crossbody block. He removed his t-shirt and set up for a springboard move, but Page cut him off by bouncing into the rope. Page performed a move that Graves said he’d never seen before, and it resulted in a near fall. Graves labeled it a cradle side suplex.

The match spilled over to the floor, where Evans ran and dove over the barricade onto Page in the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, Evans dropped Page with the Red Dot kick and covered him for a near fall. Evans went to the ropes, but Page tripped him up. Page pinned Evans while using the ropes for leverage, but the referee spotted it at the last moment.

Evans pulled Evans into a powerslam and got another near fall. Page showed frustration when he couldn’t put Evans away. Page dropped Evans to the floor. Evans tried to remove the turnbuckle pad while the referee started to count, but the referee turned around and caught Page. As the referee was scolding Page, Evans returned to the ring and leapfrogged Page and the referee, and then went up top and hit the OG Cutter for the win.

Je’Von Evans defeated Ethan Page in 12:35.

Afterward, Big Cass showed up in the ring and drilled Evans with a big boot. Cole said it had been more than eight years since Cass had been in a WWE ring. Cass clotheslined Evans. Cass pulled Evans to his feet, shoved him into the ropes, and then hit him with the East River Crossing. Cass exited the ring to boos…

Powell’s POV: Evans and Page had a good match that was better than several SummerSlam matches. That was a solid reintroduction of Big Cass. I know some fans hoped that he would go big by targeting Oba Femi or another top star right out of the gate, but I’m fine with the company reestablishing him.

The broadcast team spoke at their desk and narrated footage of LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, and Royce Keys beating Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso when Knight pinned Jey…

Backstage, Roman Reigns scolded Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso for losing at SummerSlam. He said Solo Sikoa should be at his right hip. He also complained about LA Knight disrespecting him. Reigns asked why he keeps hearing that Royce Keys is Fatu’s family, adding that Keys has a stupid name.

“Jacob, are you my family?” Reigns asked. Fatu nodded. Reigns said Keys isn’t their family. He said this was the only Bloodline they have and warned the others to trust no one. Jimmy told Reigns to say the word, and they’d go get Knight. Reigns said no play. He said they had their chance and should leave Knight to him. Reigns walked away.

LA Knight entered the picture and taunted Fatu and the Usos by getting in their faces and asking if he just heard that they were told to leave him alone. Knight laughed and said he was leaving and would see them around… [C]

Footage aired from earlier in the day of Paul Levesque, Cody Rhodes, Charlotte Flair, Rey Mysterio, Austin Theory, and Maxxine Dupri at a Boys & Girls Club…

Jacob Fatu was seated in a dressing room when Royce Keys entered the room. Keys said they fought each other and fought together. He told Fatu to think about how many times they fought in Oakland, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. He said he could forget all of that because he’s Fatu’s brother and they are family.

Fatu stood up and was intense as he said Keys isn’t his brother, his friend. Fatu said Keys is just one of the boys. Fatu said he’s Bloodline. He told Keys he would see him later tonight in a street fight. Fatu said he would dog walk Keys’ ass later tonight…

Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez, and Roxanne Perez made their entrance. Cole noted that it was Lilian Garcia’s 27th anniversary with WWE.

Morgan, Rodriguez, and Perez stood in the ring while Morgan told the fans they were in the presence of the greatest Women’s World Champion of all time. Morgan said they already knew that because she defeated one of the best in the world, Iyo Sky.

Morgan gave Sky props for being the only one in the division brave enough to challenge her. Morgan said she didn’t see any challengers, so she would be the longest-reigning Women’s World Champion of all time. Morgan said she was proud to introduce Rodriguez as the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Morgan said they couldn’t have done it without Perez, and added that she’d show everyone that Judgment Day rocks.

Sol Ruca made her entrance for her match with Perez… [C]

Powell’s POV: Doh! I wrote earlier that Alicia Taylor was the ring announcer. My mistake. I corrected it above to avoid further confusion. On a side note, why show heels doing charity work or nice things outside the ring? I don’t even mind that they do it. They just don’t need to show it during their weekly television shows.

2. Sol Ruca vs. Roxanne Perez (w/Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez). The match was joined in progress.

[Hour Two] Ruca slapped and dropkicked Perez before covering her for a two count. Ruca put Perez in a surfboard. Perez rolled out of it, but Ruca tripped her and caught her with a kick. Perez rolled to the floor. Ruca ran across the apron and then performed a moonsault off the middle rope onto Perez on the floor.

Ruca sent Perez back inside the ring. Ruca went up top and tried to do something on the ropes, but Perez cut her off. [C]
