Dominik Mysterio in the Royal Rumble

2026 has been a sour year for Dominik Mysterio, losing both his Intercontinental & AAA Mega Championships, losing in big matches at WrestleMania 42 & SummerSlam 2026, and falling down the WWE ladder. Reports emerged in recent weeks from False Finish HQ, revealing that Dominik Mysterio was “frustrated” and unhappy with his WWE booking, which does not come as a surprise given the turnaround he’s had this year. Unfortunately for one of WWE’s hottest rising young stars, his potential is dipping every single time he emerges on screen, and this report will serve him no favors in trying to recoup some momentum.

  • Reports emerged of backstage frustration from Mysterio in WWE.
  • Mysterio’s performances have lacked energy and investment in 2026.
  • Mysterio doesn’t have the same quality he had in WWE last year.

When you watch Dominik Mysterio cut promos and compete across WWE programming over the last few months, it is clear to see that things are not the same as they were twelve months ago. His performance is lacking in true conviction, his promos don’t have the same heelish arrogance and authenticity, and his in-ring performances have left a lot to be desired. In line with this downturn in his performance, reports emerged of Dominik Mysterio being unhappy with his booking.

Although Mysterio should take things in his stride and make the best out of what he’s given, it is easy to understand why he’d feel aggrieved. Ever since 2022, Mysterio has been out of the most hated heels on the whole roster, generating at one point the biggest boos and reactions out of anyone in WWE. He was improving at a very impressive rate, he thrived in big feuds and matches against the likes of his father Rey Mysterio and John Cena, emerged as one of the faces of WWE’s version of AAA, and looked on his way to breaking out into an even bigger star in 2026. However, the disparity in quality between his WWE and AAA booking has left fans scratching their heads, and it has led to Mysterio feeling underappreciated.

WWE’s Booking Of Dominik Mysterio Has Been Dreadful

  • WWE had Mysterio drop the Intercontinental Title.
  • He was involved in a comedy feud with Danhausen for months.
  • Mysterio has been one of WWE’s biggest losers in 2026.

Despite his strong few years and improvements, Triple H has treated Mysterio like a complete afterthought. He dropped the Intercontinental Title to Penta, lost in a feud to the momentum-void Finn Balor, and proceeded to be engaged in a six-month feud with Danhausen in which he was treated like a comedic joke. Even though he was the reigning and defending AAA Mega Champion, Mysterio lost to Danhausen at SummerSlam 2026 in a ‘Human Monies On A Pole Match’, which was among the worst showcases of the year in WWE.

On the back of his loss to Danhausen, Mysterio’s fortunes have not particularly taken an upturn. He has played cheerleader for Liv Morgan, feuded with another comedic act in Joe Hendry, and then finally lost the AAA Mega Championship to El Grande Americano at TripleMania 34. Nothing has gone right for Mysterio, his character has grown stale (along with the Judgment Day faction as a whole) and things have shown no signs of changing positively. It has been unforgivably bad handling of one of WWE’s up-and-coming future stars.

  • Backstage unrest has historically led to punishment from WWE creative.
  • Mysterio’s potential to be a future star is quickly running out.
  • Expect more poor booking of Mysterio from Triple H.

It might be a new era of WWE under TKO, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see old habits resume with a punishment of Mysterio’s reported unhappiness, especially if he’s shown it backstage or expressed frustration with those on the creative team. Often, those who are dealt bad booking and use it as motivation to make the best content possible (for instance with the likes of Chelsea Green) end up getting rewarded. For someone like Mysterio, who has appeared unenthused in recent months, it could lead to even worse booking moving forwards.

There is still plenty of time for Mysterio to fall back into favor with the likes of Triple H and return to being a disliked heel or popular anti-hero, but it currently looks a long way off for the generational name. It would be a huge shame for WWE to squander someone who has showcased potential to be a main eventer in the future.
