Tommy Dreamer compares Roman Reigns’ possible WWE Raw Mexico City reception to John Cena at ECW One Night Stand
Wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer believes Roman Reigns might get a similar reception in Mexico as John Cena did during his ECW One Night Stand appearance.
Penta is scheduled to challenge World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns for the title on the September 14, 2026 edition of WWE RAW in Mexico City, Mexico. Penta earned the title match by defeating his brother Rey Fenix in the Roman Reigns World Title tournament.
Now, days ahead of the bout, veteran Dreamer opened up and addressed the upcoming match. Dreamer claimed that Reigns might get a similar reception from the crowd as Cena during his ECW One Night Stand 2006 match against Rob Van Dam.
“We have this epic match where now Penta, defeating his brother, think of the obstacle he went through, and now he gets to face, in Mexico, for the world title, Roman Reigns,” Dreamer said during his appearance on Busted Open.
“And yes, this could be a hostile environment for Roman Reigns. I don’t know. I don’t think that type of heat can exist anywhere. The last time I think I’ve felt it was Rob Van Dam, John Cena, Hammerstein Ballroom. So it’ll be interesting to see.
“But then Roman comes out and basically acknowledges his opponent. It was a beautiful piece of art and what I love about pro wrestling, where when it’s done right and it’s done with two guys who are having perfect timing and know each other so, so well, you get that end result. Roman just coming down and endorsing him like that means so, so much to the continuing Penta being this top, top act,” Dreamer finished.
In addition to his match against Penta, Reigns is also involved in a rivalry against LA Knight, while the rest of The Bloodline is engaged in a feud against Royce Keys’ new faction.
