With WWE’s tour of Mexico coming soon, the promotion has taped episodes of both Monday Night RAW and Friday Night SmackDown in advance in order to give members of the roster some time off before the trip. With the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event fast approaching, there was some more build and storytelling involving many big storylines on RAW in all of WWE’s major divisions, plus the finals of WWE’s luchadors contenders tournament to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship. Roman Reigns’ Next Challenger Revealed

• WWE held a tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ next challenger.
• Penta vs. Rey Fenix took place on Monday Night RAW.

Over the last several weeks, WWE has held a tournament to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship reign, with his next defense taking place on Monday Night RAW in Mexico. Several stars from both WWE and AAA have taken part in the tournament, all leading to the finals between two brothers, Penta & Rey Fenix, whose match in the tournament serves as their first ever meeting in a WWE ring. On Monday Night RAW’s next episode, it is Penta who stands tall, defeating Fenix in the finals of the tournament. Post-match, Reigns emerged to stare down Penta, raising his title aloft.

Roman Reigns had a busy night on Monday Night RAW, with the World Heavyweight Champion taking to the ring to cut a promo, though it came without his Bloodline stablemates, who were attacked by OTM & Royce Keys to kick off the show. Reigns spoke of a lack of respect from the WWE roster, before being interrupted by LA Knight. Reigns’ long-term rival Knight rechristened the “Original Tribal Chief” to “One Tremendous Coward”, as the pair battled on the mic. In the end, the cameras panned backstage to show Solo Sikia bloody and laid out in an attack by Jacob Fatu, allowing Reigns to take out Knight, who looked poised to challenge Reigns in the near future.

Chad Gable Will Defend The Intercontinental Championship In Mexico

• Gable cut a promo on Monday Night RAW.
• He selected Dragon Lee as his next opponent.
• Ethan Page was unhappy at Gable’s antics.

The reigning Intercontinental Champion emerged on Monday Night RAW on the back of his impressive title defense against Rey Mysterio a couple of weeks ago, detailing his intentions to put his title on the line in Mexico. He spoke of the respect he had for Mexico, seeking to further his redemption after his time spent as El Grande Americano. Gable brought out Dragon Lee to showcase some mutual respect, before offering him an Intercontinental Championship match in Mexico… but it wouldn’t be as easy as this.

Ethan Page came out to interrupt the party, raging about Gable handing out a title shot. Gable hit back at Page and said he was certainly on his list of upcoming opponents… right after The Honky Tonk Man. To ease tensions, a match was set up between Page & Lee, with the winner facing Gable the following week. Despite Page’s efforts, it was in fact Dragon Lee who stood tall, making his match with Gable official for Monday Night RAW in Mexico. Gable will be hoping to follow up on wins against Mysterio and Penta in recent weeks to further his momentum as champion.

Monday Night RAW’s August 31 episode will feature the follow-up from OTM’s main roster debut and alliance with Royce Keys, with the new group ambushing The Usos to kick off the show, leading to Jacob Fatu going on a rampage at ringside, trashing the area and declaring war on OTM & Keys. The first match of the show followed with Raquel Rodriguez successfully defending her newly won Intercontinental Title against former champion Sol Ruca, though her win came thanks to interference from Lyra Valkyria.

Elsewhere, JD McDonagh attacked Je’Von Evans during a singles match with Dominik Mysterio, leading to the RAW return for Joe Hendry. This led to an impromptu tag team match which was won by The Judgment Day members. Becky Lynch & Stephanie Vaquer also continued their bad blood and rising tensions in their respective desires to challenge Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Title, plus Paul Heyman hyped up the impending meeting between Bron Breakker and Oba Femi.
