Rusev is reportedly closing in on his return to WWE television following nearly a month away.
The former United States Champion has not appeared on WWE TV since losing to Je’Von Evans on the July 27 episode of Raw. However, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp has now provided a positive update on his status.
Speaking during his review of Monday night’s Raw, Sapp revealed that Rusev is expected back within the next few weeks.
“Rusev will be back soon, by the way, in a couple of weeks,” Sapp said.
Rusev’s absence sparked some speculation after fan footage emerged from his match against Evans. The Bulgarian Brute appeared to quickly leave the ring following the finish, leading some fans to wonder whether he was unhappy with his booking.
However, other footage appeared to suggest Rusev may have suffered an issue with his hand during the match. He could reportedly be heard telling Evans and the referee, “My hand went numb.”
There has been no confirmation that an injury was responsible for his absence.
Rusev’s return also comes amid questions over WWE’s creative plans for him. Previous reports claimed officials had discussed potentially pairing him with Ethan Page as a tag team.
That idea was reportedly not final, with concerns that a partnership could interrupt their respective singles pushes. Page now appears to be moving towards an Intercontinental Championship programme involving Chad Gable, potentially casting further doubt on the proposed team.
With Rusev now reportedly only weeks away from returning, attention will turn to what WWE has planned for him when he resurfaces on Raw.
What would you like to see WWE do with Rusev when he returns? Should he remain a singles star or join forces with Ethan Page? Let us know in the comments.
