Bryan Danielson vs Swerve Strickland Star Rating

Here is some of what our own Dave Meltzer had to say about Bryan Danielson vs Swerve Strickland in the  (which you can read in full with a subscription):

“Bryan Danielson won the AEW title from Swerve Strickland in 26:00. The fans sung Final Countdown, but did the Swerve’s house loud and a ton of people did the Nana dance. Strickland missed a flip dive and Danielson hit a springboard flip dive. They traded big shots. Strickland did a Death Valley bomb on the ring bell on the apron when the ref was down. Danielson was bleeding badly. Strickland used an Olympic slam off the top rope. Danielson did two running dropkicks into the corner but on a third Strickland turned it into a downward spiral. Danielson used a dragon suplex and another dragon suplex off the top rope and cattle mutilation. Strickland came back with a Gori especial bomb.

“Medics came into the ring with the idea Danielson had seriously hurt his neck. He’s done this so often that I didn’t sense anyone believed it. Swerve used the Swerve stomp and house call three times and Danielson still kicked out. Danielson used elbows and the Regal plex. Danielson hit the busaiku knee and Strickland basically not only didn’t go down, but laughed at it. Strickland came back with the house call and JML driver and when Danielson kicked out the place went nuts. Adam Page came out and threw down Nana. Danielson hit another busaiku knee and Strickland kicked out.

“They traded blows and Danielson hit a busaiku knee to the back and put Strickland in the LeBell lock. There was a broken finger spot but Danielson got the LeBell lock on again and Strickland tapped. There was a giant post-match celebration with Danielson’s family, Pac, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta. *****1/4”
