TNA Just Proved It Doesn’t Need WWE!

It has been a few months since TNA and WWE engaged in any real significant form of crossover despite the working relationship between the two promotions, but since that time, there have been a lot of positive changes within the company. The creative team has been changed around, with TNA Lockdown 2026 being the first PLE of this new “era” of the promotion… and it was great! In fact, without the weight of a WWE crossover and the need to use NXT stars, TNA has begun to regain some momentum and energy again. It is time to admit that the WWE/TNA crossover has not benefited TNA, and in fact the promotion is far better by itself.

TNA Has Not Benefited From The WWE Crossover

• WWE have signed TNA’s best wrestlers.
• WWE only allowed NXT wrestlers to compete in NXT.
• TNA’s revamp was overshadowed by WWE’s presence.

Some fans had high hopes when WWE and TNA embarked on a working relationship with one another, but it is clear that only one side saw any real benefit. TNA experienced a slight upturn in attention for a short period before people lost interest, their championships were all won by NXT wrestlers such as Trick Williams, Jacy Jayne, Kelani Jordan, and more, and top TNA talent in Jordynne Grace, Joe Hendry, and Mike Santana were all plucked up and signed by WWE at the earliest possible opportunity.

WWE treated TNA like it was on the level of NXT rather than an equal professional wrestling promotion, with only crossover between WWE’s developmental brand happening rather than main roster stars being sent over to work in TNA (AJ Styles’ TNA appearance was only in a non-wrestling capacity, for instance). Everything about the partnership has been about WWE’s wishes and benefit rather than TNA getting elevated in the crossover, which is a huge shame given the hype and headline it created initially. TNA’s programming was getting hampered by the weight of WWE’s presence.

TNA Lockdown 2026 Proved The Company Is Better Without WWE’s Partnership

• TNA’s Lockdown felt like a throwback style of event.
• TNA did not feature WWE talent on the PLE card.
• Focusing on its own roster and style is better for TNA.

After a creative team revamp, the first PLE of TNA’s newest era came with Lockdown 2026, with the promotion bringing back an old classic event fit with the gimmick of a steel cage being around the ring for every match on the card. From start to finish, the show felt like a throwback to the old (and favorable) version of TNA. We saw a wide range of characters, a show focused on intense feuds and in-ring action, younger and newer stars being elevated in Leon Slater, Jason Hotch, Jada Stone, and others, plus great exposure for every division and championship.

TNA’s 2026 has been up and down in terms of quality (when hasn’t it been?), but this was a big step in the correct direction in reclaiming identity and standing. And guess what – WWE’s presence was nowhere in sight. There was no pressure on putting on a show that felt like WWE-lite, there were no instances of NXT wrestlers stealing the spotlight from TNA’s own roster and winning their world titles, and the “feeling” of TNA was very much in the air. This show definitively proved that TNA is far better without WWE.

TNA & WWE Should End Their Partnership

• TNA is better suited to partnering with other promotions away from WWE.
• Some of TNA’s best years have been without crossover and partnership.
• Becoming a tool for WWE doesn’t serve TNA.

At this point in time, TNA is in a dangerous position. Sure, receiving a moderate boost by WWE is all well and good, but not when it comes to the long-term detriment of the promotion. TNA should be aiming to survive and thrive by itself, in doing so making the professional wrestling world healthier, but allowing WWE to cherry pick and groom their talent with ease will only lead to their demise. TNA has already lost the former faces of their men’s and women’s divisions in Jordynne Grace & Mike Santana, lost one of their key social media movers in Joe Hendry, and could be set to lose the promising up-and-comer Leon Slater too; anyone could be next.

It is better for TNA if they end the WWE partnership once and for all, taking the time to build their own fanbase, grow their own stars, and book shows however they want. TNA will be better served in the long run to align once again with promotions that are not under the WWE banner, finding avenues to working more with MLP, CMLL, NJPW, and beyond.
