Former WWE Star Makes Unexpected Wrestling Return Nearly 20 Years After Leaving Company

Former WWE star Heidenreich is stepping back into the wrestling spotlight, with a new appearance confirmed nearly two decades after his time with the company came to an end.

The former WWE Tag Team Champion has largely remained away from professional wrestling in recent years. He stopped competing on a full-time basis in 2009, with his most recent known matches taking place in 2018.

However, Heidenreich unexpectedly became a talking point among wrestling fans earlier this year after a photograph from his life away from the ring went viral. The image showed the former WWE star working an overnight shift at Walmart while joking around with a colleague by putting them in a playful headlock.

The photograph generated a warm response from fans, with the renewed attention reportedly leading to Heidenreich accepting several wrestling-related bookings.

Atomic Legacy Wrestling has now announced that Heidenreich will be part of its We Wear The Crown event on September 12 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida.

Heidenreich is scheduled to take part in a special Meet & Greet with fans, but his involvement will not end there. The promotion has also confirmed that he will have a role during the main card, although exactly what he will be doing has been kept under wraps.

It represents a rare wrestling appearance for the former WWE star after spending much of the past several years outside the industry.

Heidenreich’s WWE career remains memorable for some of the more unusual storylines of the Ruthless Aggression era. After arriving on television, he became associated with the mysterious “Little Johnny” storyline before later being aligned with Paul Heyman.

His character also became known for delivering poetry during backstage segments, while one of his biggest programs came against The Undertaker. Their rivalry eventually resulted in Heidenreich challenging The Deadman in a Casket Match at the 2005 Royal Rumble.

A major change followed later in 2005 when Heidenreich became a babyface and joined forces with Road Warrior Animal. Together, they formed a new incarnation of the Legion of Doom and captured the WWE Tag Team Championship by defeating MNM at The Great American Bash.

Following his WWE departure in early 2006, Heidenreich continued making occasional appearances across the independent wrestling scene, including competing in Puerto Rico. He eventually stepped away from wrestling full-time in 2009 and has maintained a considerably lower profile ever since.

His upcoming September appearance now gives longtime fans an unexpected opportunity to see the former WWE Tag Team Champion involved in professional wrestling once again.
