WWE Files New Trademark Application For SmackDown Star Giulia

WWE has taken another step to protect the ring name of SmackDown star Giulia, filing a fresh trademark application in the United States.

The move comes as Giulia continues to establish herself on WWE television, although there is currently nothing within the filing to suggest a change to her character, presentation or future creative direction.

WWE submitted the application on August 18, with the trademark covering a wide variety of services connected to professional wrestling and sports entertainment.

According to Fightful, WWE has filed to trademark the name “Giulia” under International Class 041.

The application covers several areas of the company’s entertainment business, including professional wrestling exhibitions and performances, television and online programming, wrestling news and information, sports entertainment websites, fan club services, newsletters, blogs and other entertainment events.

WWE previously filed to protect Giulia’s name in September 2024, shortly after the Japanese star officially joined the company. Rather than pointing towards a new ring name or gimmick, the latest filing appears to be another step in WWE maintaining its legal protection over the name.

Giulia has remained active across WWE programming in recent weeks. Her latest match took place during the August 14 WWE Main Event taping, where she was defeated by Michin.

Before that, Giulia competed against Lash Legend in a qualifying match connected to the Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match at SummerSlam.

The new trademark application also arrives ahead of another notable appearance for Giulia. She is scheduled to face Blake Monroe on SmackDown, with the match marking Monroe’s main roster in-ring debut.

Despite the timing, there is currently no indication that the trademark filing is connected to the match or any upcoming storyline involving Giulia.

For now, the filing appears to be a straightforward business move from WWE as the company continues to protect the name of the former Women’s United States Champion.
