TNA Impact results (8/13): Powell’s review of Nic Nemeth vs. Jeff Hardy for the TNA World Championship, Indi Hartwell vs. M by Elegance in a Knockouts TV Title tournament semifinal match

Impact opened with a recap of last week’s show. The opening video aired… Tom Hannifan and Matt Rehwoldt were on commentary, McKenzie Mitchell was the ring announcer, and Gia Miller conducted the backstage interviews…

Ricky Sosa made his entrance for the opening match. The broadcast team checked in from their desk at ringside. Brian Myers made his entrance with Bear Bronson…

1. Ricky Sosa vs. Brian Myers (w/Bear Bronson). Myers controlled the early offense. Sosa rallied and hit a springboard moontsault. Bronson climbed onto the apron. Sosa sent Bronson back to the floor, but Myers took advantage of the distraction to regain control.

Bronson climbed onto the apron and distracted the referee. Cedric Alexander handed Myers the X Division Title belt to use as a weapon, but Leon Slater came out and took it away. Sosa drilled Myers with a diving European uppercut and then pinned him.

Ricky Sosa beat Brian Myers in roughly 6:00.

Afterward, Slater joined Sosa in the ring. Slater recalled that Alexander rejected his request for an X Division Title match at Lockdown. Slater called Alexander a scared, jealous, little bitch. Slater challenged Alexander again, adding that he was willing to give whatever it took.

Alexander yelled his response. He said he had no reason to be jealous of Slater. Alexander said he would put his title on the line in exchange for Slater’s record. He explained that if he beats Slater, then the company will erase Slater’s X Division Title reign, which tied the record for the longest in company history. Slater agreed. Alexander finally stopped yelling and told him to remember that he only has himself to blame…

Powell’s POV: What the hell kind of stipulation is that? I can’t imagine it made anyone want to see the match any more than they would have without that stipulation.

Gia Miller interviewed Rich Swann and BDE on the backstage interview set. Swann and BDE have a mystery partner for a match against Order 4. BDE offered a hint that Mustafa Ali said they could choose anyone other than Jason Hotch, and it’s someone who has waited a long time to get his hands on Ali…

Hannifan hyped upcoming segments, including a Moose speech for after a commercial break… [C]

AJ Francis was in what he said was one of his recording studios around the country. He told a producer that he was going to rap for the people. Elijah strummed his guitar and showed up in the producer’s area. Elijah said Francis tried to crucify him, but all it did was resurrect him. He spoke about their cage match. Francis tried to leave his studio, but the door was locked. When Francis turned around, the producer was back, and Elijah was gone. Francis left the studio. They cut to a shot of Elijah…

Powell’s POV: So they took the time to explain why the camera was there, which is good, but we could see what was apparently Francis’s hallucination? The Drifter already walks the ropes and performs a tombstone DDT, and apparently this is his next step toward becoming a full-time Undertaker cosplayer (or something).

Moose made his entrance for a mock version of Frankie Kazarian’s “The King’s Speech” talk show. Moose noted that he was wearing Frankie Kazarian’s garb. He said he looked like a douchebag and removed his shades. Moose spoke of beating Frankie Kazarian in their “escape the cage” cage match at Lockdown.

Frankie Kazarian made his entrance and tried to get the fans to back him, but they said Moose’s name instead. Moose threatened to punch Kazarian if he entered the ring. Kazarian said he does what he wants. He called Moose a terrible husband and father. Moose punched him, which led to a brawl, with security pulling them apart…

Rehwoldt hyped upcoming segments… [C]

A video package spotlighted the Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy vs. Nic Nemeth and Ryan Nemeth feud, along with the announcement that Nic will defend the TNA World Championship against Jeff tonight…

“Secret Service” agents stood on the entrance ramp while Order 4 made their entrnace for a six-man tag match. Rich Swann and BDE made their entrance and then stopped at the bottom of the ramp and pointed to the stage. Trey Miguel made his entrance as their mystery partner…

2. Trey Miguel, Rich Swann, and BDE vs. Mustafa Ali, John Skyler, and Special Agent Zero (w/Tasha Steelz, Mila Moore). Zero checked in at one point and was triple-teamed by the babyfaces. He tagged in a short time later and dominated Swann, including pressing him overhead and tossing him across the ring, before tagging out.

Ali tagged in and taunted the babyface corner while Moore took a shot at Swann from the floor. Swann superkicked Ali, who tagged out. Zero stopped Swann from reaching his corner. [C] Order 4 continued to isolate Swann coming out of the break.

Zero went on a big run that he capped off with a double chokeslam on Swann and BDE. Miguel stuffed a Zero chokeslam and then got the better of him before sliding under the bottom rope and DDT’ing Skyler on the floor. Miguel brought Skyler back to the ring and hit him with the Lightning Spiral before pinning him.

Trey Miguel, Rich Swann, and BDE beat Mustafa Ali, John Skyler, and Special Agent Zero in roughly 9:00.

After the match, Zero chokebombed Miguel. Ali told Zero to do it again. Zero was going to oblige, but TNA International Champion Jason Hotch ran out and chased the heels from the ring…

Powell’s POV: Miguel was a satisfying mystery partner, and he lived up to the billing of being someone who has had issues with Order 4. The match was fun

Backstage, Knockouts Champion Xia Brookside was rude to the makeup woman and demanded that she fix her makeup…

Hannifan hosted the weekly TNA Injury Report. Jason Hotch was medically cleared despite having rib pain. Trey Miguel was also medically cleared. Hannifan said Rehwoldt was going to talk over him about Nic Nemeth, so he told him to go ahead. Rehwoldt said Nic is in pristine condition heading into this title match…

Hannifan hyped the Knockouts TV Title tournament match for after the break… [C]

Brookside was in the makeup chair with her eyes closed. Elayna Black had replaced the makeup woman. Brookside looked into a mirror and discovered that she looked like a clown. Black revealed that she was the culprit, and Brookside attacked her. Brookside shoved Black into some chairs and other items. With Black down, Brookside ran away…

The Knockouts TV Title tournament bracket was shown while Hannifan spoke about the tournament before adding that the champion would defend the title exclusively on Impact…

M by Elegance made her entrance with Heather by Elegance, The Concierge, and Mr. Elegance. Indi Hartwell made her entrance. M bumped Hartwell with her shoulder and laughed at her. Hartwell threw punches, and the referee called for the opening bell…

3. Indi Hartwell vs. M by Elegance (Heather by Elegance, The Concierge, Mr. Elegance) in a Knockouts TV Title tournament semifinal match. Hannifan said Heather by Elegance will face Jada Stone in the other semifinal match next week, and the tournament final will be held at the Impact tapings in Brampton, Ontario, on August 27-28.

M suplexed Hartwell on the floor at one point. M got her back in the ring and covered her for a two count. Later, Hartwell avoided a corner splash and then hit two clotheslines and a spinebuster for a near fall. Hartwell went up top, but M cut her off and joined her on the ropes. Hartwell shoved M to the mat and then jumped from the ropes and drove an elbow into M’s back before covering her for a near fall. Hartwell hit M with a big boot. M went to the floor, and Hartwell followed.

Xia Brookside and Elayna Black fought their way onto the stage and down to ringside, which distracted Hartwell. Security followed Brookside and Black into the crowd. M ran Hartwell into the ring steps. M got Hartwell back inside the ring and hit her with a top rope moonsault before pinning her.

M by Elegance defeated Indi Hartwell to advance to the Knockouts TV Title tournament final.

The updated brackets showed M by Elegance facing the winner of next week’s Jada Stone vs. Heather by Elegance match…

Powell’s POV: The dream lives on! I’ve said for weeks now that I hope to see an all-Elegance Brand final with M vs. Heather. Hartwell seemed like a threat to win the tournament, so this was a pleasant surprise. I like Hartwell, but I’m hoping that they will shake up the Elegance Brand and showcase M or Heather to continue the youth movement we’ve seen with Jason Hotch, KC Navarro, and Harley Hudson being featured more prominently since the creative change.

A Harley Hudson video package aired. Footage aired of Joe Hendry announcing her as the winner of Gut Check in Coventry, England. She said she followed that up by having 180 matches in 2024. Hudson spoke about moving to the United States and being away from her family. She said that if it were based on wanting it, she’d be the world champion. She spoke about the storyline that she needs to beat Alisha Edwards next week to make a case that her contract should not be terminated. The match was listed for next week’s show… [C]

Powell’s POV: A quality video package that let fans get a better feel for Hudson’s personality.

Moose was shown laid out backstage. Hannifan said the footage was from the commercial break. Hannifan assumed Frankie Kazarian attacked Moose, but Rehwoldt told him not to jump to conclusions…

Eddie Edwards and Alisha Edwards made their entrance. KC Navarro’s entrance followed. He stopped and hugged his mother, grandmother, and stepfather, who were in the front row…

4. KC Navarro vs. Eddie Edwards (w/Alisha Edwards. Navarro superkicked Edwards to start the match. Eddie rolled to the floor to avoid Navarro going for his finisher. Navarro hit him with a suicide dive and tossed him back inside the ring. Navarro performed a top rope frog splash for a two count.

Alisha grabbed Navarro’s boot. Eddie went for a corner splash that Navarro avoided. Navarro went for a shoulder block that Eddie avoided, causing Navarro to crash and burn in the corner. Eddie ran him into the opposite corner and then through the ropes and into the ring post.

A short time later, Navarro put Eddie down with a DDT. Alisha tossed her shoe into the ring and then slid in a kendo stick while the referee was focused on the shoe. Navarro picked up the kendo stick and hit Eddie with it while the referee was arguing with Alisha. Navarro hit the Blessing in Disguise, and then the referee turned around and made the three count.

KC Navarro beat Eddie Edwards in roughly 3:00.

Bear Bronson and Brian Myers attacked Navarro. They wrapped a chair around Navarro’s neck while Eddie went to the ropes. Fabian Aichner, Ricky Sosa, and Jada Stone ran out to chase The System members out of the ring.

TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella walked onto the stage. He announced a Lethal Lockdown match with The System vs. KC Navarro, Fabian Aichner, Ricky Sosa, and Jada Stone for the Lockdown pay-per-view…

Powell’s POV: It’s good to see Navarro’s push continue. I was not a fan when TNA introduced the Lethal Lockdown match because I don’t need weapons in WarGames-style matches. But now every company seems to have weapons in WarGames-style matches. I’m sure the Lethal Lockdown match will be good with the talent involved, but it feels randomly thrown together.

A video listed the following matches for next week’s Impact: Rich Swann vs. Mr. Elegance, Jada Stone vs. Heather by Elegance in a Knockouts TV Title tournament semifinal match, Fabian Aichner vs. Brian Myers for the advantage in the Lethal Lockdown match, Harley Hudson vs. Alisha Edwards, and Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Moose, and Elijah vs. Nic Nemeth, Ryan Nemeth, Frankie Kazarian, and AJ Francis…

Allie continued her grand search for Rosemary by wandering around the venue. She entered a restroom and found “The Struggle is Real” written on a mirror…

Powell’s POV: If you ever go missing, pray that Allie and TNA officials are not leading the search.

A tale of the tape graphic was shown for the TNA World Championship match…

Jeff Hardy made his entrance and brought the custom TNA World Championship belt that he wore years ago. Nic Nemeth made his entrance. McKenzie Mitchell delivered in-ring introductions for the championship match… [C]

5. Nic Nemeth vs. Jeff Hardy for the TNA World Championship. A few minutes in, Jeff dropkicked Nemeth, who tumbled to the floor. Jeff dove off the apron and clotheslined Nemeth. Jeff slammed Nemeth’s head on the ring steps before rolling him back inside the ring.

Jeff returned to the ring and played to the receptive crowd. A “we want tables” chant broke out. “Wrong arena, idiots,” Rehwoldt said. Funny. Nemeth caught Hardy with an elbow and then slammed his head into the top turnbuckle pad several times. Nemeth danced before dropping an elbow on Hardy and then covering him for a two count.

Jeff fought back and went up top, but Nemeth cut his legs out from under him, and Jeff was caught in a tree of woe. Nemeth laughed and then dropkicked Hardy. Nemeth dominated until he charged Hardy and crashed into the corner when Haryd moved moved. Nemeth eventually came back with a DDT for a near fall.

Nemeth went for a Fameasser, but Hardy countered with a powerbomb for a near fall. Hardy hit the Twist of Fate. He went for another, but Nemeth shoved and superkicked him before falling onto him for a two count. Hardy hooked Nemeth into a pin and even held the bottom rope during the near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out.

Hardy countered a Danger Zone attempt with a cutter. Hardy removed his shirt, and the fans popped big as he went up top. Hardy went for a Swanton, but Nemeth put his knees up. Nemeth covered Hardy for a near fall. A “TNA” chant followed. Hardy blocked a kick. Hardy went for a Twist of Fate, but Nemeth countered with his Danger Zone finisher and then got the three count.

Nic Nemeth defeated Jeff Hardy in roughly 15:00 to retain the TNA World Championship.

TNA President Carlos Silva presented Nemeth with the title belt. Hannifan said Nemeth finally has his first win over Hardy. Nemeth celebrated his win while the producer credits were shown. Hannifan questioned whether Nemeth would leave Lockdown as a double champion…

Powell’s POV: A good match, particularly once they picked up the pace during the home stretch. TNA’s presentation of the TNA World Championship match left a lot to be desired. They had a video package when the show started, but then it was barely mentioned until the introductions started. With the negative out of the way, I must say that it was refreshing to see a clean finish to a big TNA World Championship match. No outside interference, no distractions, and no ref bumps. I hope that becomes the norm.

Overall, a solid show with some pay-per-view developments that made it feel fairly newsworthy. Next week is the Lockdown go-home show. Are they really going through with the Hardys vs. the Nemeths for the TNA Tag Team Titles and not having a TNA World Championship match on the pay-per-view? I will have more to say about Impact during my Friday audio review for Dot Net Members (including our Patreon patrons).
