Kevin Owens and CM Punk Gets Intense (August 7, 2026)

You have been warned!Kevin Owens has returned to WWE and, after his big win at SummerSlam, he’s now the number one contender for CM Punk’s WWE Undisputed Championship. In the City of Brotherly Love, there’s no love lost between these two, and they face off on the mic on tonight’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown.

Trick Williams gets his rematch for his United States Championship against Baron Corbin, and Jacy Jayne wants her Women’s United States Championship match against Tiffany Stratton. Chelsea Green celebrates her Women’s Championship win, and Jade Cargill faces Charlotte Flair one on one for the first time.

Here Are Your Key Moments From WWE Friday Night SmackDown For August 7, 2026

• Cody Rhodes opens the show demanding that Randy Orton come to the ring to explain himself after his actions at SummerSlam. Rhodes addresses the Philadelphia crowd, and comments on the loss of Dory Funk, Jr. He talks about his win at WrestleMania XL, and talks about his loss at SummerSlam, saying he doesn’t think CM Punk knew Orton was going to do what he did. Punk enters the arena and says it sounds like Rhodes wants to ask him something. Rhodes asks if he knew Orton was coming, and Punk tells him he didn’t know. He says he’s pretty angry about it and says they can go find him together to handle business with Orton together. Rhodes says they have business to finish still, but he wants Orton himself, and he gives Punk the ring, and after, Punk tells Rhodes that whenever he’s ready, say when, Kevin Owens enters the arena. Wade Barrett says these two have history, but makes it clear that they were told explicitly not to mention it on commentary.
• Owens and Punk trade shots off the microphone at each other, and as Nick Aldis comes to the ring, they both tell him they’re professionals. Owens says all he wants to do is wrestle, and he was forced to leave for 17 months, but he’s proven everyone wrong and he’s back. Owens says Punk has been proving him right, and that everyone keeps telling him that he’s a changed man. Owens never bought it, calling him arrogant. Owens says Punk thinks he’s better than him and everyone, and that he’s right, he’s the same arrogant sociopath he’s always been. Punk says that he loves his arrogance, and that the reason fans chanted his name for 10 years is because he’s the Best in the World, and his title proves that he is. Punk says that if anyone has benefited from his arrogance and benefited from him knocking down doors, it was Kevin Owens. Owens tells him that he’s dreamt about winning the championship back for a decade, and what’s making it even better is that he gets to beat him and humble him for it. Punk tells Owens he can see he’s a little scared, but he should be grateful to him. Owens says he should be thanking Punk for opening those doors, but he’s also thanking me for showing what not to do and how not to treat other people around them. Owens says Punk must be incredibly lonely on his pedestal, and that he’s determined not to let the business turn him into a miserable piece of [****]. The two begin to go back and forth as officials need to separate them.
• Sami Zayn is backstage with Nick Aldis and blames him for both his WWE Championship loss and his loss at SummerSlam, by adding both Gunther and Kevin Owens. Owens appears, and tells Aldis that he wants his title match in Toronto on August 21st. Owens tells Zayn that he doesn’t look happy, and Zayn tells him while he’s happy to see him back, his return screwed him out of the title. Owens acknowledges that he did that, and though he apologizes, Owens tells Zayn that he’d have done the same thing. Zayn tells Owens he’d rather see him as WWE Champion, and before Zayn says he’ll do anything he can to help him, Owens says he doesn’t need his help. Zayn says Owens should not expect him to stop chasing what he wants just because he may have what he wants.
• Baron Corbin is backstage, and before Cathy Kelley can finish her question about upsets, Corbin asks who the underdog is. He says he’s been there for a cup of coffee and he already has a title. He says Trick Williams will never have this title again, and that no one in that locker room can take it from him. Corbin then sees Carmelo Hayes in the distance, who attacks him and tells him he’ll challenge him in Boston next week.
• Chelsea Green comes to the ring as the new WWE Women’s Champion after her incredible win at SummerSlam. Green tells the crowd she loves them and “you deserve it” chants ring through Xfinity Mobile Arena. She thanks the fans, herself, and her best friend, Tiffany Stratton, who comes to the ring. The two begin to talk until Fatal Influence interrupts and tells them to stop. Jacy Jayne blames Stratton for taking away her chance at the title, and she wants to take the Women’s United States Championship from her. Stratton says she’ll give her a title match next week if Fatal Influence gives her and Green a Women’s Tag Team Championship match now. They agree, and the match is set.
• Randy Orton comes to the ring, and before he can begin to speak, Cody Rhodes comes to the ring and asks for an explanation. Orton says Rhodes asked for this version of him, and he got The Viper, the Legend Killer. He gave Rhodes the best version of him, and he beat him in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania 42. Orton says at that moment, something snapped in him and kept getting louder. He says that the best version of Randy Orton may not be able to take home #15, the worst version of him will, and that he doesn’t care who he takes it from, he’ll make sure Rhodes never has the title again. Rhodes tells him that he’s no longer held to the standards of being champion. He says Orton calls himself the Legend Killer, but he’s the last Legend left in WWE these days, and he wants to know who kills him.

Kevin Owens And CM Punk Will Undoubtedly Have A Spectacular Feud

Kevin Owens made his triumphant return to WWE, and with it, a number one contender spot after beating Gunther, Sami Zayn, and Finn Balor at SummerSlam. He and CM Punk came face to face for the first time in a WWE ring, and it was exactly as fiery and as intense as we imagined.

Owens and Punk have quite the history together, a history so volatile, Wade Barrett made a point to state that they were not allowed to discuss it on WWE commentary. With the title picture as packed as it’s ever been, and the surprise win by Zayn last month, it’s a never-ending and exciting potential for anyone to be champion.
